@@sivemaqina the Beatles also didn't have 20 other Beatles to compete with, not to mention current events was in a pivotal moment, and music then was a big influence on the people's response to what was happening. I like Post Malone because he stays out the way and the second they stop associating rapper with a lot of these musical artists that TBH music is all over the place is the second they can grow more. I was born in 86 and raised on tribe called quest so I could tell you that what these dudes make is not real hip-hop but there’s definitely a lane for it just like there’s 10 different genres of rock whether it’s soft, punk, metal you name it.

As a rap fan to ignore the criticism of Post Malone by saying its only 'randoms' giving him shit because hes sold a lot of records is pretty blindsided. I am far from a Post Malone hater, I'm more indifferent than anything, and as a consumer what he does regarding the rap culture for me personally doesn't really change how I listen to his music. That being said, from his inception from White Iverson, the whole attempt to juxtapose his whiteness & singing with wearing grills, braids, and using lyrics like 'swaggin/saucing/gettin hoes' can only successfully happen with him being white. And him using that momentum (while also being a good artist) and continuing that shtick until he doesn't need to by switching to genres more palpable to white people is exactly what other artists have criticized him for. Earl Sweatshirt, Lil B, Russ, and other artists have given him shit for what he's clearly been able to do because of his whiteness. And I'm sure the ones who don't speak out against him don't because he's an opportunity to them. It's the same thing you sort of seen at the Pop Out show where rappers that you wouldn't expect to hate Drake were there only because Kendrick made it popular to. The only reason why they didn't speak out against Drake earlier is because at the end of the day its an industry and having the connection to Drake could be the difference between their career having more success in the long run or not. That's why 21 Savage, Roddy Ricch, and the other rappers that have worked with Post work with him, it's to expand their audience to white people who can relate to Post and may not listen to that 'other rap music' and need it packaged in a melodic near-pop sound. Post isn't thnking about curating an album with the dopest rappers with the best lyrics, he picks the trends of the time, the rappers of the time, the genres of the time and the image of the time.

i don't dislike post malone but saying he has no bad songs is kind of a moot point, everything is subjective after all, yes he has no songs that are like objectively terrible, but he does have a lot of boring songs in my opinion. beatles of this generation is CRAZY by the way. as far as for his comments in 2017, it feels like you're coming up with your own interpretation to justify them tbh. he didn't even mention anything about 2017 rap specifically so we don't even know if he was referring to that (which i'd wager he wasn't given his bob dylan mention), but even if he was his comments to me revealed how he views rap as sort of like a genre to flaunt wealth and look cool, have fun and that's about it, not paying attention to the engaging projects that dropped before and during 2017, which is quite ignorant from him i think

Edit: HY are you gonna review his Country album? Post Malone stealthily became one of the most successful recording artists of the 21st Century and a lot of people didn’t see it coming. He’s not a rapper in my view. He’s a singer. Trap production happened to be trending when he came to prominence so he sang on trap beats. It was the fastest route to the top of the charts. Now country is trending so he’s singing on Country production. A genre chameleon is the hallmark of great a Pop artist. Their music becomes a mirror that reflects the zeitgeist. Post has always done that well. When the 70s/80s revival was happening a pop radio he put records out to cater to it, but it never feels contrived, he strikes the balance of chasing commercial success without sacrificing sincerity. He’s very talented with an even more talented team behind him.
