He seems embarrassed by it but it's a part of growing up and nothing to be ashamed of. The fact that he's growing into himself and learned and grown from his mistakes and experiences is refreshing. He's one of the good ones. Also, when he answers him with "sir" is beyond sweet, he's so real and respectful and humble.

Fuck, I really felt when he was talking about the ultimatums and stuff. How sometimes, you just need one very special person to tell you that you can do better and be better. It's just so difficult to get out of these bad places when you have to do everything alone and no one is ever there to help you out.
