Feel like that's every game this season where subs have come on and made a huge difference. Duran gets the headlines but Barkley and Maatsen class again today. Gutted for the SJM injury but not worried because of our depth. Last season this would have been devastating for us.

It really feels great having a strong bench. They are picking up so many points this season. Barkley was excellent as was Maatsen and Duran.

I think - much as we love him - McGinn doesn't fit our BEST 11...not wide anyway. Bailey (tho only 90% imo today) our best 'Ray Graydon'....Tielemans is in control in midfield..Onana when we need to be defensive; which we can default to with wide threats - Digne (Injury?) has imo been our near best player this season and pre....who do we drop to make McGinn feature? Ramsey? Rogers? Perhaps we need these changes to be less predictable as we have yet to have a clean sheet. discussion MOST welcomed.

With an England player memorial - a minute's silence is exactly right. With the Villa though - no. HEITS means something then, and I'm always going to sing it. And I know a lot will... it surprises me that ALL don't, tbh, but perhaps that's just different perspectives. It was a nice touch for the Holte to add a Gary Shaw verse to God's Hymn though - as we did for Dalian and Ugo. Loved the game. Second week in a row Villa have made me plenty of £££ waiting for us to go behind before putting anything on us :) - which I guess makes it my round now so... on the piss m'lord on the piss.... Gary Shaw, m'lord, gary shaw! Gary Shaw, m'lord, Gary Shaw! Ooooh, lord, Gary Shaw!

Duran is going absolute beast mode, not only did he score again but he stole the ball to create Watkins goal and also stole the ball on several other occasions in enemy territory as well

McGinn will definitely be missed as he is a pretty unique footballer and he is our captain and leader. However, I don't think his loss will have the same impact as it would have done in any season prior to this one which is testament to the squad that we now have. What a time we are living in!!!!

I mentioned last week in the comments 2 names you should interview for a tribute to Gary shaw. Kendrick I’m looking at you to do it. Lisa smith and Grant Adams. Both knew him and were obviously impacted by him for the Villa. Both great speakers. Lisa with a background in bham mail. You may get some great stories out of them. Shaw was an absolute character. Some of his stories should live on.

Our squd depth is now terrific. Maatsen, Barkley and Duran chamged the game for me. Sadly, I think the team has moved up a level from players like SJM and Carlos. As much as I love SJM I just dont think he cuts it anymore.

Carlos I agree with but McGinn no. There are certain games where he's 100% needed. He doesn't do anything particularly flashy like other players but he's the main one doing the dirty work- breaking up opposition play and driving forward bringing the team with him. He's a leader and that shouldn't be underestimated.

Durans attitude may have changed drastically. but i didn't see him doing anything other than what he is currently doing. His talent has been blatantly obvious since he joined us, and more than proved this is what he was capable of if we just gave him the chance. I love the fact that he doesn't conform. His celebrations are cracking, I just hope its a case he falls in love with us enough to stay, i dont want the money he could bring not even 100m.

Re their goal, Carlos should have played it right not into the middle, but 1/50 it looks awful soooo keep doing it - as Unai said on MOTD, “ we were 💩 “ in the first half: YEP… but football lasts for 90+, plenty of time to change, & to change it, we did, we have the tools, let’s stay patient… 💜💙🦁

I think its fine to be wrong about Duran - some could see that he was a talent and would do well with time under Emery. Others didn't. Sometimes we get it right and sometimes we get it wrong!

Carlos is a good defender. Just needs more match time. Sometimes, it's just the curse of lack of match fitness plus emery's system.

Bro he passed it straight to the other team like four times under zero pressure. Villa is lucky to come away with a win after a defender gifts an absolutely free goal for no reason early on like that
