Evidently, Kojima was planning to do a game on the Boss and the Cobra Unit. He was in Normandy doing location scouting, but the production was halted because MGSV was so much work for the team. Ak47 not captured but found out, disgraced and was on the run until Big Boss found her, rescued her and brought her into the Patriots along with Zero, Ocelot, Sigint and Dr. Clark. At this point of the story in Peace Walker, she and Ocelot followed Big Boss and left the Patriots after Big Boss decided to leave due to being betrayed by Zero with the Les Infants Terribles project because Big Boss and Zero were at odds with how to interpret the Boss's will with Zero being a megalomaniacal control freak, even to sociopathic levels. Only Big Boss, Ocelot and Eva remain in contact and pretty much a team regardless while doing their own thing and combating and staying away from Cipher/Zero. Thats why she was still able to send him tapes to MSF and knew his plan to expand MSF into Outer Heaven. with her saying at the end "A little bird (Ocelot) told me you just made a big decision."

As if we didn't have enough reason to love the Boss already she took every loss imaginable and somehow even more than that and yet she never stop fighting for what she believed in. I find it baffling how such an important audio recording in regards to the Boss's character is purely optional. On that note, I've also got to credit Eva's voice over she's probably one of my favourite characters in the series just for having a level of depth and emotion very few other characters do in the series and is proof that MGS has more than 1 female character it did right. And while I'm at it Strangelove is also pretty remarkable too if only for her last recording.
@Alchanii4 жыл бұрын
The part about this being optional is indeed the strangest part of Peace Walker (and Ground Zeroes/Phantom Pain as well), since this is arguably *the most important* information, higher in priority than a lot of other stuff. My favorite stuff about PW/GZ/Pain were almost entirely the late(-ish) game tapes, for the most part. These tapes, a good portion of the tapes in GZ, and that last batch of tapes at the *very* end of Phantom Pain are incredible on a writing level, acting level, and story level. And they're *all* tucked away!

That last line says a lot without saying much, which should go in Kojima's highlight reel. Since he's become a madman who doesn't know how to write anymore. Recording this, I knew the end of this video should end in the same kind of tone. Quick flip up and down to make note that that was indeed all of them, and then quietly fade into the night. ~31 minutes of this weird fantastical-alternative-history thing, ending on a downer punch of a note.

Before Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain, there was an expectation that those two games were going to be that final missing links that connected the MGS3 side of the timeline to the original Metal Gear game, and most importantly, show that transition from Big Boss the hero to Big Boss the villain. The dust has settled since then, and that really wasn't the story in Phantom Pain, as Snake was pretty firmly in his villain role by that point. With hindsight, we probably didn't need that story because that villain transition happened here, right after EVA's tape cuts. It's so quick, but that little utterance of "I can't" is so heavy.

It's in this game that Big Boss cements himself as rejecting the conditioning he underwent as the apprentice of The Boss that was supposed to be the perfect soldier for the US and instead seeks to fight against the establishment. By doing so, by acquiring Zeke, he passed the point of no return and this would spell the end of MSF and his heroic vision of it being a force to fight for those who cannot defend themselves and instead becoming the Warlord of an elite mercenary unit that engaged in nuclear terrorism. Big Boss never became a villain. Kojima himself said that the first two MG games weren't entirely accurate and would need to be remade. Think about MGS2. The Patriots have the power to frame Solid Snake as a terrorist, how easy it must've been to do the same with Big Boss . Ultimately, because the first two games aren't fully canon anymore, I'm inclined to believe that Big Boss was never a villain. He was most likely framed as such because he opposed the Patriots.

It's because EVA is extremely selfish and a professional bullshitter. We effectively know very little about her character because anything that comes out of her mouth not related to The Boss has a very high chance of being a big fat lie. How could she love Solid and Liquid if she never even spent any significant amount of time with them? Doesn't seem to hold much water. She never even tried to establish contact with them once, not even when Liquid was busting his ass off in Angola leading that pack of child soldiers at the age of 11 years old. Her actions in MGS4 are those of a sad old lady who realized and started to regret that she threw her whole life down the drain by working as a spy who never held anything sacred, except for an idealized and, dare i say, nonsensical as all hell admiration for The Boss. I mean, she spared Snake's life because the Boss asked, but wouldn't have done if not for that? Even after everything that Snake did for her? Saving her from dying impaled on that fucking tree trunk, and then proceeding to treat her wounds and feed her ass while being hunted by enemy soldiers? Saving her from getting her fake ass plastic tits blown off by Ocelot and losing his fucking eye in the process? The Boss didn't do any of this shit for her. Even after all that, she was still fully willing to put a bullet in Snake's head for the sake of her mission, but then the fucking Boss asks her to spare Snake and now it's suddenly ok to ignore the mission? What the hell? And a few years later she even agreed on helping to clone Big Biss without even his permission, his consent. This alone makes her actions and words in MGS4 seem a lot more dubious. What the fuck was her game here? She claimed to have worked with Ocelot, but Ocelot was on Big Boss' side during their little Cipher civil war. It seems that EVA just does whatever the hell she wants and shows the middle finger to everything else. (Cept for The Boss of course). EVA flipped off everything in the world for the sake of her dumb spy jobs, and by the end she had jack all, except for hope that Solid and co would fix the shitstorm that herself, Zero, Sigint and the others conjured. Thankfully they did.

I hope I'm not the only one who wonders what goes on in this story than what the games and tapes provide. The characters, backgrounds, true emotions in the moments and what happened in the time gaps? It's an interesting thought. Either way metal gear is a great series of games and a great story that was able to fit events in the story with events in reality, the game created characters I would find myself wondering if we ourselves as fans, would ever figure out the truth. (Also forgive any errors in the grammar.)
@Eyes-Scream02133 жыл бұрын
I always believe that this is the downfall of Big Boss. After receiving the tape and knowing what The Boss went through he decided to do things on his own. But the more he made the world different the more he became the demon. This is one of the reason why I hated Big Boss. He never understand what The Boss wanted and instead he become more obsessed with her. What the boss really wanted is for him to live as Jack, to live a normal life on the world she protected. Solid Snake is a clone but he is way better than Big Boss. Solid Snake is imperfect but he embraced it. He became selfless like The Boss which make him more as the real Big Boss. David never know the boss but her idealogy and principles are the same with her.
@Arthur_url3 жыл бұрын
But thats the thing. Big Boss is a flawed character. He didn't become a "villain" because he misinterpreted her will, he did it because he was angry about what they did to her (and can you judge him?). In any case, not every main character has to be perfect and 100% loveable. If anything, them having flaws just makes them feel more real

Maybe/Pretty sure she figured out who EVA really was way before even Snake/BB got his eye patched and made her promise she wouldn't kill & told her everything before she took her away when EVA was discovered with Volgin's legacy, where the Boss told whatever was left to say to EVA. The Boss was a great character, but to be honest I am more freaking infuriated against the CIA and would have killed them freaking all if they if they did not put their ego, stubbornness away. The Boss had to make decisions that she would not have to make if the CIA was that not difficult. And you now what is Even more infuriating, Hot Coldman called The Boss Ideals "Bankrupt". I am sorry what? What is the CIA then normally for? Here is the description "The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) collects, evaluates, and disseminates vital information on economic, military, political, scientific, and other developments abroad to safeguard national security." How does the Boss her Mentality go against that making it "Bankrupt"? In fact SHE WAS LOYAL TO THE END FOR AMERICA SO SHOULD THAT NOT HAVE "HELPED" SOCIAL SECURITY WHICH IS YOUR ORGANISATION GOAL?! Hypocrisy at its finest its freaking disgusting for me. And do not get me Started on Operation Snake Eater, which was suppose for "National Security" by making the Boss a Lamb sacrifice. Where was that mentality then when you had that in the SPACE RACE? This was never about "national security", it was about filling your own ego using that as an excuse. The titttle of Big Boss is a freaking sham. Because Snake was so called "greater" than the Boss. Sorry man love the guy but with her mentality? No ONE deserves to get a bigger title to her then that. The title of Big Boss is a huge spit on her grave. I understand Big Boss/Naked Snake made his descission after hearing Eva's story at the end of MGS 3 to put their back unto the CIA. Because the Hypocrisy is freaking disgusting. National security my ass I would say. A lesser person would have indeed freaking cracked, become infuriated and would have become the Villain.

MGS3 53- Meet Up With The Boss There's one thing I don't understand about this. In MGS3, The Boss said she went to space in 1960, not 1961. She also said that she really was a part of the Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961, and that she wasn't in a coma after crash landing on Earth from space. So, how do these tapes coincide with what The Boss said in MGS3 or did Kojima just retcon all this in Peace Walker?

+Sup750 Retconned. Just like Portable Ops retconned Sokolov being killed in Snake Eater or that Big Boss told Solid Snake in Zanzibar Land that he was his father (which isn't in the original MG 2), or that Big Boss was in his 70's when he was cloned as told by Liquid in MGS but now it happens much,much younger in his 40's.

OK here's where Kojima starts to lose me. The MGS story implies that it was not the efforts of the allied forces, the threat of communist Russia taking over Japan, or the A-bombs that were decisive in winning the world war, no, it was a TEENAGER and her band of freaks that won the war. Look at the ending of MGS3, if i'm not mistaken the boss is not even forty years old when she died, something like 37. Not only that, in the Mercury mission, which I believe didn't involve an actual flight, but was more of a dress rehersal (I don't think America sent up 7 people at a time at that point) the boss and her phony ass is the one to pioneer space travel, and instead of the U.S claiming victory over Russia to have the first ever WOMAN go into space, showing what a shit hole Russia is for women, the U.S who were trying to show Russia down at every stage, hid it. Although a GREAT GAME the MGS series has some very idiotic flaws. For example, in this game, Peace Walker gets EMOTIONAL and commits suicide huh? the ghost of the boss infests that gigantic stick figure to jump into the water... In terms of overall game, MGS is a beast, but in terms of relevant story... leve that to the late tom Clancy.

Everything I hear about the boss is not a hero, but a patsy. Despite everything that her country and the philisophy did to her, she preferred to take it than to rebel. That's worse than a traitor. If she wanted to, she could have worked with her lover and his team to find their kid and disappear. But no, I want to be a tragic hero. Pathetic...

I kind of get what you are coming from..But at the same time I dont. I still like the Boss because, unlike the people you describe she put her EGO away despite everything. It is freaking easy to go like you described. She had a believe and kept to it. And while I kind of see it from you POV I disagree It is that People treated a person like here that way, that are the real monsters here. Loyal to end, to her purpose.
@badasstoad9419 Жыл бұрын
She already rebelled a number of times. Like how she infiltrated OKB-1 on her own, and talked to the Philosophers. I think you misunderstand The Boss’ vision. She often times did what she could, to follow her correct morals. But there’s only so much 1 person could do. Big Boss, who strayed from The Boss’ vision, only created chaos and more war. It is then at the end of MGS4 when Big Boss realizes and says “I realize now, that we should not strive to change the world.. But do our best to keep it as it is.” (To keep the Peace) That… That right there, was The Boss’ vision. And to do that, The Boss had to make personal sacrifices. That is The Boss’ vision, that Big Boss came to only at his final moments. The Boss was mistreated a lot, but she was a TRUE soldier. She wanted to bring forth peace and end the wars that already exist, not make more. Even if that means personal sacrifices in the name of peace. Truly, loyal to the end. To her purpose. What an amazing character. ❤
