Nick Read comes from the same mould as so many PO responsibles we have had to listen to in the course of this Inquiry - "based on the information I received from my staff", "to the best of my knowledge", "had I known", etc - please destroy the mould! The PO and the Government should get the finger out and pay all outstanding compensations to the Sub-Postmasters within say 6 months!!! P.S. If I ever get into trouble and need a Barrister, I'd love to have Jason Beer - what a formidable lawyer!

I'm only here for the Beer.

I enjoyed seeing Mr Henry followed by Mr Moloney, both for the sub PMs, turning the screws on Nick Read.

I do not think people ought to be too critical of Nick Read. He claimed that the job description he was provided with, and accepted the job on the basis of, misrepresented the role. He has claimed that the job was actually a lot more complex than he was told (no kidding!). His answers to the inquiry have been forthright, albeit couched in the language of (public school educated) bureaucrats. Nonetheless, and despite the fact that he demanded more money, he has obviously tried to manage the PO as best he can. Don't forget, he has to manage all the affairs of the organisation on a daily basis, Dealing with SPM claims, though very important, is only a small part of his overall responsibilities. I do not think he is anywhere near as culpable as many of those senior managers and directors who preceded him. The major reason for delays in compensating SPMs is likely to be the Government - primarily the hopelessly mis-governed Conservative government - led by a succession of clowns who desperately wanted to avoid having to take responsibility, settle claims, and pay compensation. Far too interested in protecting their reputations and positions. SPMs should take a class action suit to force them to pay compensation plus interest.
