@@Vern01Dustin Schwartz is a goalie killer. Been the Oilers Goalie coach for 10 years. Goalies come in from AHL or Other teams with great numbers, play fantastic for the 1st year then rapidly decline, and then get moved and suddenly start to get better. Many Goalies have requested permission to work with other goalie coaches or work with someone else in the summer. So it's long been a discussion that maybe it's time to look at Schwartz. This is the best defensively oilers team has ever been. And Skinner sav% has declined. Skinner called up from AHL. Does a .913 as a back up .914 first season as a starter, .905 this year. Talbot came here with fantastic numbers played amazing 1st year and second year then drastically declined. Laurent Brossoit Winnipeg back up Anders Nilsson Sens back up, Mikko Koskinen came in with fantastic numbers post .917 gets contract falls apart. Long list of Goalies that came in well and succeeded after leaving. Granted they played behind much worse D but as D has gotten better trend hasn't reversed.

Unfortunately, Skinner isn't proving any Dallas fan and any of the sports media talking heads wrong. Dallas is and has always been positioned to win this series solely based on the talent between the pipes. It is clear as day it's the goaltending that will make or break this series. Dallas and Edmonton are unequivocally evenly matched. But numbers don't lie. Game 3 Oettinger .900 SV% Skinner .809 SV%. Careless positioning again by Skinner. Lack of concentration, focus, anticipation and awareness. I'm running out adjectives to describe Skinner's positional errors and repeated lacklustre performance in the 2024 playoffs. When the team sucks the goalie is suppose to stand on his head and do everything in his power to not suck. Letting in goals like the 4th goal is not standing on your head. But hey, like Skinner always says, a loss in the playoffs is a wonderful education that he treasures.. I'm happy for you buddy, hope you're learning something. Try to keep the suck barometer to a minimum the rest of the way. The air's coming out of the Oilers playoff tires quickly.

What I like about Stuart Skinner....I like that he is a big imposing technical and competitive player who has excellent playaction anticipation and reads that allow him to be a positional foundation type of Goaltender who relies on proven structure not finger-painting....I like that Skinners calm focused demeanor translates to his Teammates who can feel his composure gluing them together... I like that these traits and others allow Skinner to be solid in high paced back-and-forth Firewagon style games.. to not lose his composure over a single goal or over multiple goals...he keeps the fire burning....80s style games...he reminds me of a bigger Andy Moog. I just dont like when a Player I like gets put in less than optimal positions ,especially when its a Goalie. Skinners still salvagable but he needs to be used in or to go to an incubatory type place where his strengths are focused on in a high energy high paced System where he is constantly engaged.

Its not all on this guy .. dallas is a great team at adjusting and wearing teams down. It's what they do and why they are so hard to beat.. they get stronger as the games and the series go on because every line looks the same. They are all dangerous, well balanced and they play solid defence. The opposing team starts to get tired and frustrated and dallas just locks it up very well. They've allowed 0 3rd period goals this series. 7 - 1 on the road now in these playoffs. Great game. Goodluck in game 4 oiler fans. The series is far from over. Its a marathon not a sprint. Stu was playing for his future in these playoffs. I stress "was", because no matter the outcome of these playoffs now, he could go on to win the cup, he's just damaged goods. Nobody is going to want a goalie that is as unpredictable as they come. You had your chance Sievenner, and you blew it. It's too late to go get a real goalie at this point, as Draisaitl will be heading out of town at next year's trade deadline, and this team is getting blown up. It's absolutely amazing how a countless number of couch GMs, call better decisions than actual GM who makes millions of dollars to suck at his job.

Worst save percentage in the postseason out of all goalies who have played since the salary cap era. Unfortunately, unless Connor and Leon put up 7 or 8-point nights, 4+ goals against every night (2+ usually stinkers) is not going to win a cup.
@SimplyTheBestCSGO4 ай бұрын
The sad truth about Skinner is... I think playing in Edmonton (his hometown) adds a lot of non-needed pressure to him... also the fact that the Oilers have the best players in the world / best powerplay and are in a "NEED TO WIN NOW" mode, it puts so much pressure on the goalies / skinner. If he was playing in a crappy team like Philly or Columbus, I'd bet you he would steal a lot of games. Skinner isn't terrible but he's very weak mentally, as soon as he lets in 2 goals within a matter of 2-3 mins, he goes downhill and he's a free slot machine. Skinner is terrible with the Oilers and is the main reason why Oilers been losing past 2 years, the team doesn't want to play anymore once they play from behind because of him
@KptKrunch94814 ай бұрын
Funny, I was saying the same thing last series. I agree 100% - it's a lot of pressure here to win as it is, and if you're the home town goalie it's even worse. Biggest problem was/is Jack Campbell. He was supposed to be our #1 but he sucked so bad (I called that too I was really upset when we signed him) we had no choice but to throw Skinner in the net. He'll be a great goalie on another team I'm sure (and not necessarily a bad one) but I think the pressure is too much for him here.

Doubt it. Can't think of many games where he has "stolen" anything.

@@KptKrunch9481 Jack Campbell had better numbers than Stuart went he got sent down, and got sent down after SKINNER bombed against both the Canucks and then the Sharks and got Woodcroft fired and his tandem partner sent to the minors.
@KptKrunch94814 ай бұрын
@@sierrakilogulf True but his numbers were still poor. Skinner has shown to be (a lot) mentally tougher than Campbell ever has been. Campbell is a total flake who parlayed a 50 game stretch (as in Toronto 50 games not Campbell playing 50 games) stretch into the contract he has today. He will be bought out on June 24th guaranteed. And it's highly unlikely we'll see him in the NHL again unless it is as a backup where he only need to play once every 4 to 5 games with no pressure. He'll probably show pretty well too and everyone here will say 'see we should of kept him' - well we can't afford a $5m backup

@Hexadecimal_QueenofChaos4 ай бұрын
absolutely. in real life he is a very nice and authentic guy, this probably makes him too hard on himself and prone to taking on too much pressure to not let the team down, rather than getting into the flow of the game and forgetting about all the stakes. once things start going downhill, he chokes under the pressure, almost freezing when the puck gets near him or overthinking rather than trusting his instinct.

Out of these final four goalies, Skinner is literally the worst.
