You will make it through to the other side, I promise! Had a total of 4 knee surgeries, 2 on each side. I had to have one knee rebuilt, down for a year (was throwing blood clots). Gotta do what they say. As soon as you start being able to rely m9ve around, you won't need any core exercises. It'll be so tight from getting yourself around. Hang in there. Sarah, you're so hot as a redhead, surprised you're not throwing flames!! You're a rockstar with everything you have on your plate! You've got this!!

You are both doing an amazing job. Stay positive, and laugh often. That is the best advice I can give. I have been staying with my 90 year old parents since last April. In the last 2 years, Dad has had multiple amputations, infections, surgeries to reopen an amputation to clean out infection. We almost lost him twice, but God allowed him and us more time. This man is so strong and positive and he does slide board transfers like a pro. He has the BEST sense of humor. We are always laughing. I believe this is what has kept him going. He has had to adjust to his daughter (me) cleaning him, changing him. He is my hero. I have been separated from my husband, son, and grandkids, but they lovingly support this living arrangement as it is what is necessary for the time being. I have and will cherish every moment I have with my parents, God gave me this time for a reason, and I am SO grateful. God bless you both...keep the faith. ❤

Sarah, you’re so wonderful and strong! Please don’t let all these encouraging words stop you from venting, feeling overwhelmed, or seeking help!! It won’t make you any less strong 😊💪🏻. Oh, and TIP (not for exercise, sorry): when you wrap an ace bandage around the leg, it’s a big timesaver to start with it rolled all the way up, then move(/unwrap) the roll around the leg. It just keeps you from having to pull the long tail around each time, and you won’t have to hold the leg up as long to thread it underneath each time. Best of luck to y’all!! ❤️

Using a Pilates Reformer, I was able to keep my leg straight and do arm exercises while strengthening my core as well. That machine is a game changer - and it’s fun. You can buy them in different sizes depending on what you can afford which is also nice. Heal quickly and well Derek!

I had an ACL reconstruction as well, Instead of getting in the tub because I found getting out was 10x harder and getting in was not easy, we moved a lawn chair and stool into the shower so I could sit in the chair and get clean. There’s also shower chairs you can buy from the pharmacy, but that worked perfect for me. Still can’t clean everything but almost! Haha.

I'm a caregiver for my brother and I'm telling you right now you need to go and get a transfer bench from a medical supply. It will be so MUCH easier to help him shower. Y'all scared the crud out of me trying to get him in the tub 😂

I posted in a previous video that they need a shower chair! That move he did was a bit scary! I had knee surgery when I was 19. My tub had the sliding doors with the railing. If I could get in and out of that without too much difficulty, I don't see why it's so hard for Derek to get in and out of an open tub!!!

Sarah you’re a hero, you’re managing everything soooo well! I just went through a similar surgery, hang in there Derek! I also had multiple surgeries in a year and it gets so discouraging feeling captive to pain and medical treatment when your personality wants to play and be active. I discovered I needed to add as much floor and chair workout outs as I could for core and strengthening everything, in addition to the physical therapy exercises. All of my body lost strength and it was making my recovery longer. If you search chair and “lazy” workouts you’ll find things you can do from sitting and bed. Just do your best every day, without expectation, it’s a roller coaster recovery, when it hurts…. Pull back and listen to your body. Emotionally, try to find passive things that bring you joy - like a photo project or game night, movie fort sleep over with the kids, things to look forward to and break up your days. ❤ it’s the thought that counts. Very much appreciated. It’s really exhausting being a carer plus the children who are tiny, make sure you look after yourself. Get as much help as you can, lots of grandparents help. Trouble is if you can get in doesn’t mean you can get out, you would have been better off with a chair in the shower and have a spritz. You can get a waterproof cover to put over the leg and support same they use for a plaster cast.

How to make frozen pizza dinner romantic… salad kit, but add other veggies chopped up, peppers, radishes, some boiled egg if you like them, pickled beets, cheese, I add micro greens, they add lots of flavor and nutrients. And use your own favorite salad dressing. If it’s ranch, add some dried basil1 tsp, 2 tsp dried dill. And an extra 1/4 cup of Mayo, or buttermilk, or half n half, 1/8 cup. Mix up good, let sit in the fridge pre use for 1 hour. also, add some dried parsley when serving!

What about getting one of those long handled reachers with the hand grip and pinchers on the end? Could that help with changing? And they do make special devices to assist with putting on socks if you cant bend.

I know about being a home nurse,,,,, and that's not my profession! My dad was 74 and lost use of his dominant right hand/arm. He also had open heart surgery... there were things I had to do that I never imagined I would have to do, but this was my dad. I barreled thru and did these chores because of one reason! I loved him so much! Still do but he has passed on but whatever was needed showering, bathroom chores, getting dressed, brushing his hair, toenails, finger nails I was there for him! ❤❤❤❤ when you love someone you do what needs to be done!, I applaud you hun!😊

Great Job Sarah! You take really good care of Derek. Praying for a good report from the surgeon. My daughter had major reconstructive knee surgery at age 15 and boy was that rough. She was so brave and had so much PT but she is doing great now.

Sarah, you were born to be redhead! My goodness that color suits you!! When I saw Derik’s reaction to Sarah’s Valentine’s Day date, I legit teared up. Such a precious moment. You could see how touched Derik was. It’s not how fancy it looks or how fancy the food is, it’s the whole thought and gesture behind it. I would take this over an expensive meal at a restaurant any day of the week and twice on Sundays 🥰🥰 Just keep that positive mindset. Take it one day at a time. Enjoy the little moments. When I injured my knee and upper rib, I’d lay flat and do crunches without bending my knees. This helped me not to gain a lot of weight. Also, small dumbbells for chest, shoulder, and arm workouts. ❤
