Kings had a under rated team in 2001 and 2002 . Led by Felix Potvin and Ziggy Palffy, Deadmarsh , Robitaille (traded) , and Jason Allison. They upset the Redwings and pushed power house Avalanche into 2 game 7s .

The team was first dressed in Forum Blue (Purple) and Gold (Yellow) to match the Lakers, but with the popularity of the Los Angeles Raiders among the African-American and Latino communities and the rise of hip-hop and rap groups like N.W.A. in the late 1980s, Forum Blue and Gold was replaced with the Silver and Black they use today.

After Gretzky left I lost all interest. All the great names were gone, tradition was over. Used to be a big Kings fan starting in the 70's.

I always thought the Kings would win the Cup when Gretzky joined in 1988. They made it to the Finals with Gretzky in 1993 but lost to Montreal. That’s the closest they got with Gretzky. Ironically the Kings finally won not one but two cups after Gretzky left
