Funny thing, much like Hatred from 2015, POSTAL was controversial even before the game's initial release. Hell, RWS was in trouble before beginning the game's DEVELOPMENT. Lemme explain. According to an interview, Running with Scissors was sued by the Post Master General at the time over the trademark of the word "postal". Long story short, the USPS was not happy, they sued, Vince called it a "move of intimidation.", and the suit was eventually settled in late 2003, some time after the release of POSTAL 2.

I was just looking at this in my drawer. It was a great game back then. The controls absolutely sucked but you get used to it if you want to play. The big thing about postal is that there was a couple times that there was post office workers that actually did go postal. So at that time there was a real backlash against this game because of that.

Not a children's game indeed.... And yet I was able to play the game when I was young, all thanks to my dad whom I was staying over for a weekend in 2003 when my grandma brought me to him when he lived in a house next to farm, and I saw the game installed on his computer which he let me play on, along with Doom and Quake which he also had installed on his PC as well which I also got to play for the first time too. First time playing it though, I wasn't able to get the grasp of what to do. Sure it had something to do with killing hostiles which there is a percentage to reach before you are allowed to advance to the next level. I even remember that the game's language was set to German because my dad and I were Krauts of course, and I even remember the word "Totungen" which is obviously a mistranslation for Getötet. When I was able to grab hold of the game myself about two years or so later after having played Postal 2 when I saw my mum playing it just about a few months or so after having played the original, but did not let me play it until I was old enough where she handed the game as well as other stuff I was not previously allowed to play to me, after killing the required percentage of hostiles, even killing all of them, I had no clue how to advance to the next level. That is until I did discover that you have to hit F1 to advance after you have killed the required percentage of hostiles. It was very confusing at the time and even still to this day. Thankfully, the Redux version opened a proper exit to the level after having killed the required percentage of hostiles.

Never had any issues with the controls. There is nothing as easy and simple as the following: press forward and move the mouse to turn. I find it odd that some people think that to be bad or difficult. you could even rebind the controls to whatever you want.

It's mostly the perspective for me - this is the only top-down game I've ever played with rotational controls like a first person shooter rather than directional controls like an arcade game. I was able to play through the game several times with the original controls and enjoy it, but every time the first few levels felt really awkward because I had to retrain my brain against pretty much any other game I've ever played. Remapping the keys didn't really help because the controls were still rotational, just on different buttons. Until the recent updates allowed players to choose which control style to use, that is, so I suppose the debate's over now. If you have no problem with the OG controls, hey, more power to you - but they definitely fucked with my head!

TheSolidMidget Yeah, it was outsourced to a Russian developer (who also did an expansion called Corkscrew Rules for Postal 2 which is even worse) but they screwed up the development quite badly, making something that RWS has never condoned. It's more like they hired a surrogate to have their baby, except that surrogate spent their pregnancy smoking crack and getting blackout drunk. And the baby...the baby made it. They're not sure it even _is_ a baby.

Prioritized Targets/Imbalanced Health Capacities In Postal In Postal, there are armed combatants, a few dressed as government militants, but, others more closely resembling normal civilians, including a geriatric male wearing sort of comfort clothes depending on how you see it. The idea of arming these combatants, is that it replicates a sense of prioritization to shoot blonde women, older people, larger built men, and whatever else crosses a succession of weapon discharges. The uneven health capacities replicate the concept of further destroying an already incapacitated/dead target. There is an NPC verbal cue that says “stop shooting, you psycho. I’m already dead” at multiple points in the game. This may be the only indicator of the theory being likely, and its representation as a symptom of “mental illness” which consists of auditory hallucinations accompanied by whatever other delusions. The game is able to provide a psychological shield by dressing these prioritized targets as militants, to give the player a sense of understanding, without adversely rewarding the brain. Another applicable perspective/theory about the plot’s insinuation that the main character is convinced the air force is deploying a mass effect destabilization agent, is that the various levels aren’t just one person’s compilation of incidents, but, more so a series of separate incidents by different people represented by the same figure to portray the similitudes in psyche during those moments and the manual level switching, suicide mechanics and presence of soldiers/swat in the game, suggest realism in the sense that these locational incidents are halted by an inability to move forward as a result of being overwhelmed by military personnel/seeing completion of whatever occurred that would permanentize the impossibility of the player character’s return to general living. These perspectives are good grounds for role playing/replayability.

Why is killing people fun? I've completed Postal 2 with rage just for getting cheats,I've got 3 hp on the exit of package task and I was dying like 20 times on Cat apocalypse and I didn't do it. After I have downloaded an AWP mod for 800 weapons and completely free cheats I didn't even have fun with it tho :/
