Posterior open bites in clear aligners and how to fix them.

Thank you! I've been googling a lot, and I could not find an explanation for why the doctor thought it was best to trim the back half of the aligners off at the end of our invisalign treatment, on one side only, when the rear bite wasn't adequately deep (due to the plastic aligners pushing the rear bite open for a year of treatment). The front teeth needed the most correction, and aftwr treatment, they were perfectly straight. and they quickly started migrating incorrectly after cutting the back of the trays off (after 2 weeks) Yes, the rear bite is closing , but that's because , after only 48 hours of not wearing your trays, they immediately moved back to their original positions.😢 Now that the front bite don't look at all straight anymore, is there any better way they could have tried to close this gap in the back without just cutting the invisalign trays in half??? Rubber bands, something besides removing the trays only to let gravity udo all the carefully calculated aligners. Now they had to cut the back off the right side of the trays to hopefully let gravity do then work to close the bite equally on both sides. My question is, why would it make sense to wear braces every day for a year only just to cut the backs off at the end of the treatment, weeks before retainers were fitted????

I actually thought that we were supposed to use chewys and force the back part of the aligner into the teeth, so I spent 6 days doing that to end up with severe jaw tightness and open bite. My ortho made me feel like a dumb*ss when I told him my bite is so messed up that I literally chip my canine when I bite down now and said it’s not possible after only 6 days. Now I’m afraid to ever wear my aligners again and also not wanting to go back to see him with his attitude and dismissive behavior, he was red in the face angry when I asked about my bite and tried to show him the chip😭what should I do?? See a new ortho? He has 37 years experience so I thought I could trust him😒

Wow! I’m not an orthodontist but see someone else. I had the same issue seven years ago, they brushed me off saying it’ll go back to normal. Now here I am with a pretty bad bite problem I’m going to have to address. My back teeth do not touch at all and now my front teeth are taking all the force. No one takes me seriously when I say I’m a very heavy grinder.

@@shelbyday7735 yess , my front teeth are chomping away at each other now and back not touching after only less then a week of one tray. I’m like if the ortho was intelligent all he would have to do is use a bite strip to determine nothing touching 😅I have noo clue what to do now since I spent all this money and am too afraid to proceed with the trays espec since my ortho thinks I’m crazy lol

Ask for a Hawley retainer. The hawleys don’t interfere with your bite. I had double jaw surgery and Ortho tried to put me in clears. One side didn’t even touch. Like I just spent so much time and money to get a perfect bite and now these retainers are jacking it up again. Just give me hawleys.

Could you explain what conventional bite ramps behind upper canines do for Invisalign?

Because I was having some lockjaw problems where I had difficulty fully opening my mouth once I moved to my new trays after doing a scan refinement. When I told my ortho this, and mentioned that my old trays before the scan refinement had the conventional bite ramps on my upper canines, he suggested reordering my new scan refinement trays with those bite ramps added behind my upper canines again. I was told it could help with clenching but I’m worried about it messing up my bite since I’m reading/watching about bite ramps being used to fix/open bites. But are conventional bite ramps, particularly those placed behind upper canines, different? Should I request no bite ramps? Help please! Thank you so much!
