Hi Cathy, this video is extremely helpful. Thank you so much for the information. I just came back from an ovarian cystectomy (today, POD-6), and had suffered acute pulmonary edema. My GYN doctor mentioned this was uncommon and my low blood pressure may have contributed. I’m trying to figure out the underlying reason and what I can do going forward to never relive this. I might be looking up your references. Thanks again!

Hi HJ, Glad you found the video helpful, it is more common in young healthy patients and there are multiple clinical factors that can increase one's risk. I would discus more with your anesthesia provider to discover what specifically happened in your case to avoid future incidents.

Ive been intubated for 15 minutes to do a upper scope, and had no edemia, I have large tonsils to remove but I'm 34 at 395 lbs and doc says I need to get to 325 lbs to lessen the chances of edemia... I think it's stupid that I would get anemia for having a tonsillectomy being intubated but I've already been intubated once and it sounds like it's not the fact that you're cutting out tonsils is the fact that you're just being intubated.... I don't think cutting out the tonsils has anything to do with that unless it has to do with the swelling around the throat.... Like I said it already been intubated once with no chest congestion.... The only thing that I think gives me fluid in my lungs is my CPAP

Hi John, The concern of your provider is when a chronic obstruction is surgically removed there is a higher incidence of POPE in this population. Your Surgeon is trying to get you to a lower risk group with weight loss pre-op. Best of Luck to you in the weight loss! Cathy
