My grandma used to make a big pot roast every time we'd visit. Pretty sure it was always a little dry but she'd shave it thin on a meat slicer in the basement and some pieces where nice big thin pieces and some shredded a bit more and served with some gravy. There was nothing better. There something about pot roast, man.

Well, my comment might be drowned in the mass of the other comments since I post it 7 months after the video came out, but I just wanted to say one thing : a pot-au-feu was never meant to be expensive. The meat used is cheap cuts of beef (chuck, shank or shoulder, but I'm not sure of the translation) and pretty standard vegetables are added along like carrots, potatoes or turnips. Everything is boiled together. It might be long to cook, but no, it's not expensive. It's a cheap, conforting winter meal that will warm you up to the bones

We have been looking for things to make for (hopefully) regularly occurring, family dinners since my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and the Yankee roast fit the ticket. We doubled the recipe in order to feed 8 people with minor leftovers. It joined the clean plate club with every single one of us (some twice over). My dad is a real meat-and-potatoes, farm-boy at heart, so the look on his face as he inhaled this was perfect. The only modification we made was to turn the braising liquid into gravy. Thanks for doing this recipe. It was amazing.

My Husband and I tried this and it turned out amazing. We used the Kosher salt but I think it may be different to the one you had as I am in South Africa. Our dish ended up being quite salty and I still went a little lighter on the salt compared to what is in the recipe. We did however find a solution and were forced to improvise! We did several taste testers, for example, we added lemon to take away the saltiness, it kinda worked well but not the kind of taste for what we wanted this time, then made a tester with sugar, that was alright, and then we tried honey! Just enough to reach that point before sweet. I used 3 tsp of Natural Honey. It turned out amazing. Thank you and we are looking forward to purchasing your book and a few of your items when we return to America to start a new beginning. We watch u all the time and learn alot from you! Thank you! 😁 Well done!

I was raised by my grandparent's. So whenever we had a little extra money in the middle of the month or beginning of the month we'd have a pot roast on a Sunday after church. My grandma would wash some potatoes & carrots then cut slits into a couple large white onions. She had some water in the roaster & pop it all in the oven with the roast. By the time we'd get home from church the roast would be done & that would be the meal for the whole day. I miss her cooking. She passed away 5 years ago.

Each piece of short rib that size will serve for two conservative eaters if you cut it the way he does. If you have a big family (I'm going to say 2 adults and 4 kids) that are big eaters, one piece of short rib per family member (about 4-5 lbs total) and double up on the vegetables. Worst case, leftovers for a rainy day! You should still only need two marrow bones though. Those things are full of flavour.

French guy here, “Pot-au-feu” is in origin a peasant dish from the middle-age, and as such it is not a fancy nor expensive dish. It’s actually really easy to make and is best enjoyed the next day of course 👌The only thing complicated about it is the cooking time which takes forever, so it’s easy to mess up the texture of the veggies.

I’ll go against the flow here and talk about the actual recipe instead of complaining about his pronunciation or making double entendre jokes. Babish, this was the best pot roast recipe I’ve made. I had tried many recipes over the years and they were nothing to write home but this was amazing and the leftovers were even better, so much that I’ll double the recipe from now own just to have leftovers! My son and I also made your puerco pibil and we liked it so much it made it into our rotation. Maybe one day I’ll try the pot-au-feu. Keep up the great work!

No joke. I was going to make pot roast yesterday but decided to hold off on it because a family member's diet ends in 2 weeks. I do not know how to make pot roast and too many recipes do too many different things!

I feel like adding in sound effects at rare fail time would funny up the videos even more. Imagine a cartoon ricochet sound when the piece of onion went airborne.

Can you try making the Italian food from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure season 3, episode 10, "Let's Go Eat Some Italian Food" They actually provide an ingredients list, so you can see if the recipes are accurate, or if they just put random shit on there. If it is the latter, you could try to make it your own way, while still remaining loyal to the description given in the episode.

Okay, made the "Fancy-Ass Pot Roast" for New Year's dinner, to four out of five rave reviews. The fifth wasn't feeling well, so his taste buds were off. First--yes, it's time consuming, but oh, my God, it's worth it! The meat was so tender, the broth was delicious, the vegetables with the sauce were phenomenal! Definitely will be making this again. Thanks, Babish...
