How did you neutralize when you were finished ? Alkaline hydrolysis is how the melt bodies at the mortuary, but it also leaves the bones which can the be ground to powder.
@jerichojoe3073 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: for every 10 degrees Celsius above room temperature you get a doubling in the reaction. Farmers use this to get rid of dead livestock. Essentially by boiling the lye solution; the tissue breaks down the faster and turns to a liquid sludge. If the temperature is sustained for at least a few hours it will even dissolve the bone into something called bone Shadows which are so brittle that they literally crumble at the touch and dissolve in water. They then pour vinegar into the vat to neutralize any lye that is left over from the process as the lye breaks down as it reacts with the triglycerides of the fats but there's some residual left over. Once neutralized; This leftover solution can then be used as a liquid fertilizer for trees and shrubs. Yes I just inadvertently told you guys how to dispose of a body🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤯🤯🤯

Also I wondered how come the Bone survive and not dissolve? won't it get weaker and dissolve eventually? I used Sodium Hydroxide before to clean some burned pot, do you think potassium is more efficient in order to achieve the same result? Thanks in advance! :)
@augustovasconcellos71738 жыл бұрын
Potassium hydroxide is a base so, even though it's going to easily destroy flesh (the proteins that make up flesh are acidic), it's not gonna do much to the bone since they are made mostly of calcium, acids on the other hand, will turn bones and teeth into sludge but will take quite a while to dissolve flesh.
@augustovasconcellos71738 жыл бұрын
oh and concerning your question of using more or less of the potassium hydroxide it's kind of a case of yes and no, using more of the the stuff won't dissolve organic tissue faster but it will let you dissolve more of whatever you want to dissolve, on the other hand, using a more concentrated potassium hydroxide solution will actually make the reaction quicker as well as allowing you to dissolve more stuff in it, not really sure about it though.
@augustovasconcellos71738 жыл бұрын
Of course, though, potassium hydroxide is a solid so A: It has to be dissolved in water and B: there's a physical limit to how concentrated this solution can be.
