Don’t you weigh your big bags? If so why did you pick and take potatoes from the bag prior to closing it with the stitcher?
@kjw7911 ай бұрын
It was too full, they were above the stitching line.
@daveklein282610 ай бұрын
Of course they weigh them

That’s a beautiful potato harvest! How long will the potatoes last in your storage area? I hope the market is going good for your family. I hope the weather stays warmer for you so your able to get all your crops out of the field.

So just curious, why not just collect all the potatoes and then look at them inside when you're ready to bag? Looks like it take a long time out in the field to clean each one just to put in the basket.

I had a hard time with my potatoes over here in numidia. I planted them a week before the 3 week long drought in May and some came up, others were late and then didn't make it.

No shortcuts to harvesting potatoes. Back breaking work. Always thankful to get them because they are such a staple over Northeast winters. We grow three beds (16’x4’). Enough to last a year for us in the household until the next harvest. Mash, baked, potato pancakes, breakfast potatoes, braised. Absolutely a versatile veg!

All the potatoes I can get have green so I have to peel so much off. We didn’t use to get so many green potatoes. Our potatoes are probably from storage. We can’t grow potatoes because of fire ants. We grow but have to take up really small. February 14th is our planting date. All our potatoes are up by the time our sweet peas are ready and our green beans. By June most of our gardens are gone because of heat and squash bugs. Just planted turnips and mustard and we are getting onion slips November 13. They are short day onions because this is the time of year we have to plant and we don’t have the hours of daylight. Southwest Georgia near Florida/Alabama line.

I'd have to drive 3500 kms south of me in winter if I wanted to see snow, havent seen a frost in years either.Joys of living in the tropics. Unlike you up here in the middle of summer its too hot and humid to grow smallcrops.
@katrienvh428911 ай бұрын
Logan, why not give the potatoes that are a bit green to the cows as free food? They love potatoes.
@daveklein282610 ай бұрын
Composted into the field is far more valuable

@@daveklein2826 I thought Logan always says that the waist on the fields goes to pigs. But compost is of course very good.

Hey Logan it's getting cold for yawl. 80's here and Friday we get a cold front. No freeze just 50's. What a good potato harvest for yawl this year. Do you sell them over the next months? What are you planting in the old strawberry field? Stay warm, many blessings.
@BroyansFarm10 ай бұрын
How it would be nice to have 80 degree days again! Chilly here, we get excited to get a 63 degree day! But we do sell them for the next couple months, usually just at our farm market & sometimes to local restaurants. I am unsure what’s going to be in the strawberry field for now, my dad still has to plan that which will be this winter when he works up all the other fields too. God bless!
