Potato Harvest and Mid April Garden Update at Deep South Texas

Today I am harvesting potatoes at Deep South Texas. I have been growing Red Norland, Kennebec, Yukon Gold, and Russet potatoes this year, The harvest is in and has ben weighed up. Also harvesting some huge sweet peppers, and Blue Lake Pole Beans. Tomatoes plants have been pruned and the tomatoes are really shining through. Tomato plants now have shade cloth and bird netting.

So jealous of your tomatoes & peppers! I had also planned to put them out in Feb (also in South Texas) but it was my first time starting seeds indoors & really struggled. Hoping to be able to do this next year.

Every year is different, but getting them in the ground as soon as possible usually leads to better results. Good luck. 🤠

No, originally from the mid west, but have been down here for 30 years now. 🤠

What is the general growing seson in deep south texas ?

We can grow something almost the whole year. Many months are too hot for some plants. A few days each year may be too cold for some plants, but not all. 🤠

At the time I was planting the other seed potatoes I had a bunch of russets purchased at the grocery store that had sprouted pretty badly. These are what I used for the russets. 🤠
