Thanks for your great video. I was brought up on these and am happy to see how you make them in the food processor. We used to grate the potatoes with a hand-held grater. These are good with just salt or you can have applesauce on the side or on top.

Thanks. I'm a second generation Polish-American. My mother learned to cook from my grandmother who was from Poland so I grew up eating many of the foods you present on KZbin. But, my mother never had any daughter's and she cooked from memory. So, all of those fabulous Polish delicacies my mom used to prepare were lost after she died. Until I found your KZbin vids! What you call "Hunter's Stew" we used to call Kapusta (sp?). Very yummy. Going to a Polish Deli in New Britain, CT next month for fresh keilbasa and kabanosy for Spring BBQ season. ;-)

Ania's Kitchen Excellent! I've tried to make Placki in the past with horrible results so finding your recipe for that was a very happy occasion for me. Basically, placki, hunter's stew, cabbage soup and variously stuffed perogi. Perhaps you can point me to a recipe or two...or three...for various perogi fillings. Some recipes for different things to do with keilbasa would be great too! Thanks.

Try letting them strain thru a fry screen into a bowl. I watched a recipe where they did this to allow excess liquid drain, then they just decanted the liquid off but what was left on the bottom of the bowl was all the starch from the potatoes which they wanted to keep. They put the drained potatoes in that bowl and mixed back in the separated starch. The recipe from there pretty much follows Ania's.

Great recipe I like my potato pancakes not smooth so after I grate them also grate the onion, Put in a bowl add egg and flour and mix. Press potato mix into pancake shapes and put in HOT oiled pan and heat about 3-4 min a side till edges become brown.then flip.. another three min. Give that a try.. Enjoy with sour cream topping or apple sauce,, Jam or jelly is great with the sour cream..or just Jam.

Thanks I did mix it all together. We're trying to make the 12" big ones like at Polonez Restaurant in Toronto and put the Wengierski Gulasz inside and fold them in half. A little bit of a challenge turning big ones over without braking them up.

@TheAsmrAddict8883 жыл бұрын
Omg you're the FIRST person to make them the way we make them. My Polish grandmother didn't always use onion. But yes raw potato batter is the key. No shreds no pre cooked. We just do it all in the blender
@AniasKitchen3 жыл бұрын
yes yes yes :)
@TheAsmrAddict8883 жыл бұрын
@@AniasKitchen we also found that frying them in Crisco shortening taste the best. That's just personal taste though. Also noticed that the shortening tends to not let the Plackis stick the pans as much as regular vegetable oil does.

agreed, if you have time to do it by hand this would probably be the best way to go but with two small kids running around I do not have that time so I am happy to speed up the process as much as I can :) To be honest I don't find much of a difference (my mom is still preparing them by hand) but it is always question of taste :)

I too added a couple cloves of garlic and right at the end I added a couple pads of butter . Also I made half the recipe with the potatoes shredded then the next half with a slight puree , I liked the shredded only half better . All that said the recipe is good , it just needs a little more on the spice end and the melted butter is a big plus .

I regret not having the foresight to watch my mother cook or get her recipes before she passed. She was Hungarian and Czech. I am trying my best to recreate some of her dishes I had growing up. She used to make pan fried potato dumplings that were outta this world! Boiled them first, then into the cast iron skillet until browned a bit, served with bits of bacon I think. Pretty sure they were grated/raw. I can't seem to find the name or a proper recipe for these, could you help Ania?

boil potatoes, mash them, remove about one fourth of them and fill the hole with potato flour, add potatoes you put aside, add a bit of salt and mix everything well. you should get smooth, not sticky mass which you can either form into small shapes and boil or make dumplings and fry them or you can make pancakes, which are my abs fav.
