Resolution became irrelevant to cinema cameras -- and even detrimental -- once they started pushing above 2.5k. Even 4k is just way too much. This is frankly how Netflix ruined cinema; the 4k mandates are pushing filmmakers in the absolute wrong direction. Now everything has this glossy, hyperrealistic look that just sucks the soul of the moving image. There is art in imperfection, and a big part of movie magic has always come from the medium. And we're destroying that medium because a bunch of dipshits at a billion-dollar streaming company said so. Nobody watches The Godfather and wishes it was in 4k. Nobody watches ANY great old movie and wishes it was in 4k. The whole conversation is absurd.

its just truly amazing how the people who makes the best cameras in the world, still expresses the most genuine, down to earth, passion with developing camera technology. And is also so excited to share those informations with all of us. Eventho the price is such a huge leap from other options on the market, you just know its worth the price, becaues they don't brag about the specs, and just works to make the tool works for its users. Annnd separating the cooling fans from the electronics, doesn't compromise the weather-proof abilities at all.. If you ever want to, Rental Houses are usually very hospitable to walk ins at least when it isn’t busy. When I was in film school I would call the ones near me and ask if I could come in and browse equipment for an “upcoming project” that I made up just to be in the same room as Alexa’s, Venice’s, and Red monstros Right now I work at one in Atlanta and know for a fact if a customer came in wanting to look at lights or cameras or lenses people are happy to pull them out and show it off.

I'm still learning about dynamic range, Is the Alexa 35's 17 stops more impressive than the Red V-raptor's 17 stops? Are Arri's brightest stops better?
@HeliosAnimation2 жыл бұрын
Yes, in general Arri tends to underrate dynamic range, where Red overrates it, so like a 17 stop red camera is the same as an old alexa, i've even heard some people say its less.

ayo didn't expect to see you here, but yeah, red uses highlight recovery which basically remakes the clipped infos from different color channels, most of them time it's ok but sometimes the highlights look monochrome, so their 17 stops is not only overrated but based on some unusable highlight recovered range

I live in Munich next to the ARRI Headquarter. In the meantime, ARRI who was founded in 1917 in Munich by two film ethusiasts (Mr. Arnold & Mr. Richter, what ARRI stands for) has a 105-year company history of creating cinematographic equipment that wrote film history and coined the production and visual style of tens of thousands films around the globe. For decades, they developed und produced analog film cameras, every model at the pinnaccle of the respective cinematographic technology of its time. The last analog film cameras they released were the Arricam Studio and Arricam Lite in the year 2000. They are planning to maintain all their analog cameras still in rental for at least the next ten years to come. Now, for more than ten years, ARRI has managed to successfully transform their decade-long technical know-how and experience from the analog film technology to the digital era of cinematography. Congratulations! We`re eager to learn about ARRIs future develoments in the area of cinematographic technology.

This camera is oozing with class. ARRI has done an out-of-this-world job with this camera. Will I ever get the chance to use it, probably not. However, their dedication to quality over quantity shows heavily with this release. Hopefully the focus ARRI has put into their color and dynamic range reproduction will trickle down into the rest of the camera industry. The only companies I can see getting close or surpassing would be Sony or Black Magic Design. RED has some serious work to do with their color reproduction if they want to compete. Yellow and blue look so artificial with RED. That brief test done on the anamorphic lenses with the orange and blue lights looked so natural and clean. Anyways, great job on this video. It's awesome you get to work with ARRI to reveal this camera to the world.
