I've noticed that one thing you tend to miss in almost any game where it is relevant is placing your capitol to take advantage of a civilization's unique tile improvements or other "prefers to build in a specific region" advantages. It was absolutely worth taking two turns to build your capitol next to that desert - Nubian pyramid next to a city center means +40% production for ALL districts, a boost that would have easily made up for the few extra turns wasted moving your first settler. You've made similar errors in the past - Hungary gets faster build speeds for any districts and buildings across a river from a City Center (and you actually moved your settler away from an ideal position in the recent Hungary game, meaning much slower campus and science buildings for no advantage). Same thing with Cleopatra - basically ignored the fact that with Iteru boosting the build speed for Holy Sites and the powerful synergy between Sphinxes and Earth Mother pantheon you could have had an easy go at a Religious victory even on Deity. Might be worth actually spending the start of these streams reading about the leader and their civilization's unique boosts and discussing how you plan to use them to your advantage - you tend to get a bit more distracted during live streams and doing this would help you have a clear plan and not mess up key city placements so often.

Agreed I think I had around 4-5 cities with Nub pyramids adjacent to the city center and it was pretty much a cakewalk. But I think he doesn’t care about that level of detail. What really matters is he’s become a celebrity - you did hear him mention how much he likes $$$... His reaction of “What was that noise” @6:56:20 was priceless. I suspect either the platform or mods he runs allows him to make crucial mistakes and still compete. My games would likely be over by Turn 55...

So can we expect some guideline videos for specific victories? As you said before you wanted to show how to win diplomacy vicrory.
@pulchritudinoushog4 жыл бұрын
For diplomatic, just become Suzerain of most/all city states (pump out civics towards envoys and influence points), and try to get high tier governments early on. Since you cant easily predict Congress events, you'll usually just want to pump out Culture (since pretty much everything gets Great People, and you would already be doing so) and Science (Carbon Recapture, plus it allows you to get better units for Military Events). On top of this, play as someone that you can easily make allies with, like Wilfred Laurier. Alliances are very good for generating diplomatic favor. But if push comes to shove, you can always save-scum world Congress to vote in agreement with everyone else (but if you have to cheat for a diplomatic victory, not only is that cheating, but it's the second easiest victory behind Religious)

On using exploits. Occasionally using the change government exploit isn't the difference between winning and losing. It's a small optimization, often used after mistakenly not changing policies when they become available. Something like production preserving is a game-changing exploit that almost entirely changes the way you play the game. If you're going for purism, then sure, don't use either exploit, maybe don't use even UI mods, otherwise, depending on your objective, especially in a single-player game, do what you want.

On exploits: Since you're not competing as part of any speedrun = who cares Theres always a tradeoff between speed and entertainment value. The government exploit is super minor compared to say RE2 remake where you can glitch through huge chunks of the game hence why speedrunners don't do it - because its boring It also depends on the game. I know some bosses in WoW and FFXIV have been downed using exploits for World firsts and often the community doesn't care Keep doing what you're doing. I've learned a lot from watching your videos and you're a nice and reasonable guy
@OursAreTheSix2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know what’s so hard to understand about the exploit. As an example, in mortal kombat the original you could sweep multiple times if your timing was good and the opponent couldn’t do anything about it. It was considered an exploit and unfair but if you were playing someone and you swept them, why would you NOT sweep them again? Similarly, why would you not exploit a minor glitch against a computer on deity which already cheats?

How do you go ten minutes arguing and trying to explain yourself instead of observing the very simple contradiction people are pointing out (perhaps with a chuckle)? "I don't war because it makes it too easy for me to win" - said at least 5 times "I use exploits because this is educational" 1:27:20 "The reason I use exploits is because its the most efficient way to win" If you're trying to show the most efficient way to win... then taking over cities is part of that. Maybe what you're actually doing... is playing how you like to play. Nothing wrong with that either. "There's a certain point where optimizing for efficiency destroys the fun of the game" Those points are different for different people.
@PotatoMcWhiskey4 жыл бұрын
Theres no contradiction. I don't find war an enjoyable way to win.
@gawdat38594 жыл бұрын
@@PotatoMcWhiskey Yep. That's what they tried to tell you. You were defending with logic about education and ease of winning, when really all it came down to was PERSONAL PREFERENCE. I'm glad to hear that you've come around.
@PotatoMcWhiskey4 жыл бұрын
@@gawdat3859 I explained this in great detail iirc. There is a difference between using a strategy that is too powerful to win the game, and using a game mechanic or exploit to win the game. I do not find the going to war strategy fun, because it makes the game too easy. I use the exploit to show it off to people and show an efficient way to play, becuase it doesn't make the game too easy.
@gawdat38594 жыл бұрын
@@PotatoMcWhiskey Yeah you did explain the same thing over and over, but you never *listened*: "Why do you use government swap exploit?" YOUR ANSWER: "Because this is educational, I have to show the most effective strategies to win" "Why don't you defeat Scythia?" YOUR ANSWER: Defeating other civs makes the game too easy, it's just not fun for me. most effective strategy = easiest way to win Thus... CONTRADICTION According to your first answer, YOU HAVE TO show the most effective strategies to win. According to your second answer, you are trying to avoid winning too easily. If I had to take a guess: the real reason you're having so much trouble with this? Made clear by your follow-up answers to myself and others? You're uncomfortable answering the first question honestly. You claim you have to use exploits to spread awareness for an even playing field (in a 1-player game) and claim you have to demonstrate (educationally) the most effective strategies for winning in your videos. But when it comes to other facets of the game? You don't abide by those rules. So clearly those "rules" aren't governing your play. You're going with personal preference. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just flabbergasting that you can't see it
@PotatoMcWhiskey4 жыл бұрын
@@gawdat3859 There is no contradiction. You have invented one. One of these things makes the game too easy and I do not enjoy it. The other thing is an efficient way to play that does not make the game too easy. I will not be responding further.
