I don't know what it is with this game, but I always seem to like, mutate down a certain line, way too often. I must be making similar choices over and over again because I mostly get the ascension with the light bearers, or whatever it is. It's been a long time. Lol.

Oh I just thought he added “-ies” to spud, but that the extra d had to be there because “spudies” looks like it might be pronounced like “spew-dees.” Kinda like how a bad guy is sometimes called a “baddy,” or dog becomes “doggy.” I think the term for this is a/the diminutive? For that matter, is buddy the diminutive of bud? Or is bud a shortening of buddy? (A very short google seems to suggest buddy in its modern use came about sometime in 18th century American English, possibly as a corruption of the noun “brother,” and not as the diminutive of bud. According to etymonline [website, don’t want to link] “Short form bud is attested from 1851. Reduplicated form buddy-buddy (adj.) attested by 1952, American English.” So buddy seems not to be a diminutive, strangely)

11:20 if the graphical issues you’re experiencing is the diplomacy screen having a weird flicker over the other ruler that’s not a you issue that’s a bug. It even happened on the devs live stream of the expansion.

If anyone wants to try something weird; pick a dragonlord (or other) ruler, specialize it for combat, then go deep into chaos to get the demon summoner tome. There's a spell that can summon an avatar of your lord. In this case a dragon. Fully expendable at that.

That doomstalker major race transformation looks cool. being in a tier 3 tome you might not need UMBRAL DISCIPLES at least not for the umbral flesh. But nice to have two ways to walk around without dying. The special outposts are awesome too, and a third way to survive out there. This reminded me of a Perfect Artisans build that compensated the harsh -1 city cap by building a zillion outposts and building everything in them for +5 gold per building. That makes them give gold instead of costing it!

First time I managed to beat 2 full armies with only one of mine at early game with no damage on my team at all. Tentacles are OP alongside mind control and insanity. It blew my mind how different the game felt but in a good way compared to the previous Dlcs where I had to learn the game again but it wasn't fun. It felt like I did everything wrong. Here I feel in control (literally) with those new control spells and it feels great from the start. At first, I feared the umbral abyss would end up like a chore, having to deal with damage every turn and no regen. But troops are more durable now and you have solutions for it easily without the need for a specific trait or having to prepare for it first. You just go there, fight stuff, grab the juicy rewards and explore new shortcuts to the surface. It feels more like mini dungeons rather than just another underworld. Really well put together. Adds a lot of chaos the way you travel the map now.

The funny thing about the stone spirit units is that their actually a bit nerfed from AoW3 because in that game the upgraded versions could stun you instead of pinning you.

I think the Eldritch faction might be a tad over tuned. The only AoW game ever played before this one was Planetfall. The first run I ever did with AoW4 was as an Eldritch kingdom on hard, and without even knowing what I was doing because I skipped the tutorial AND turtling super hard the entire game I still managed to win a military victory because when I did manual battles I just made half the units berserk or mind controlled by turn 2 and everything folded like a chair to that.

I can not for the life of me understand why a ton of races have entire kits themed around them but then stuff like dragons not only get the short end of the stick but also end up being incredibly risky and have a massive weakness to polearms tacked on just for the hell of it when they have many other downsides already. We definitely need some more tomes to flesh out some tribal synergy around more of the major transformations for sure.

I still feel like this game could be so much more. It's a good game, maybe even great in some ways, but I feel like it still has design flaws, and multiplayer isn't as smooth or enjoyable as it could be. But I'm glad Potato is playing it.

Yeah. It's the sort of thing where it's pretty amazing for what it does. not many other games compare in sheer customization potential. But that potential just makes you wish for more depth and consequence to each choice. Personally I want them to focus on making playthroughs with existing cultures more interesting. Wonders could be much more interesting. Multi stage quests with bigger rewards.

The one thing I do not like in this game is you choose a culture type and that is what tells what kind of units you have, what kind of armor they are wearing...so no matter what race you choose you can either be this, or that, no mix of them or any change. I'd much rather have it so that each race have their own unit types, and armor looks.

Why do you handle army movement notifications first? I guess the game almost forces that on us, but it seems like a really bad idea. There's all kinds of ways where the other notification should affect army actions. Like the empire trait that reduces combat spell mana cost. Kind of important when you're running low on mana...

It jumps back at 2:44:53 , so the correct order should be to skip to 2:44:53 when you get to 2:20:06 and then at the end of the video hop back to 2:20:06 .
