Hey Potato, you can gamble with political party leaders by exiling the ones with Traditionalist traits or other bad traits every 5 years. It's mostly random who takes over but you can influence the chance. Generals, Agitators and your Ruler can be potential party leaders. Their odds of becoming the leader is influenced by their popularity. If you get lucky and get someone with Moderate or Reformist or Market Liberal you can reform insanely fast. Its one of the best strategies when playing Russia since your Heir starts as a Market Liberal. Targeting the Landowners and the Church have the biggest impact if you can get someone with a good ideology trait as the leader.

to add a bit of context on why you start on war against Grão-Pará as brazil. Grão Pará(which is the region i was born) was the last province to declare independence from portugal after the 1822 independence on rio de janeiro. after 1831, the first emperor pedro I abdicated the throne and pedro de bragança II (Pedro II from civ6) became emperor as an infant, since he had no means to govern the empire, a temporary replacement was build (the Regencias) made of 3 authorities that choosed governors on each region to take care of such a massive territory. Grão-Pará's people did not recognized those governors as legit rulers of the region and started the "cabanagem" revolt, the longest revolt brazil had in history, started at 1935. In the capital of today's Pará (the current name of the state), Belém, we have a big monument that represents the "cabanagem" revolt and is a symbol of resistance for us.

Brazil is a great country in Vicky3, especially when you're learning the game. You're a pretty big fish in a fairly small pond, so as long as you don't do anything monumentally stupid (like declaring war on one of the Great Powers), you can concentrate on industrializing and liberalizing without any significant security threats. Just figuring out how things work, and what buttons to press. Brazil even has oil and rubber (when discovered). The only thing missing is sulfur, which can easily be gained from either Peru or Argentina.

Hey @Potatomcwhiskey a bit of advice. You should try to get on iron frame buildings asap. It is way more efficient and puts more money in the investment pool. Build less sectors and put it on iron fram as soon as you have the option. You will grow much faster and enpower the industrialists quicker as well. Try to focus on states with iron and coal. Then vertically build in that state. Tools, mines and steel it will make construction cheaper and better.

To get Multiculturalism and the other laws you wanted, you should be taking the Agitators who support those laws (like the one you went and found) and using the Promote To Government option to make in the leader. This then takes the entire clout of the group for the support % of the law. So Multiculturalism would have gone from 8% to 25% base chance. Side note: Multiculturalism is the hardest reform to pass because even your intelligentsia oppose it at baseline, and no one supports it without a unique ideology. People do be kinda racist like that in the 1800s.

Great vid, Spud! at 2:17:00 when you encounter an awkward forced peace with Argentina for a war you're clearly winning, have advantage in, etc is so annoying to me. So many mechanics in Vic 3 from day 1 to now seem half-baked or poorly implemented and the game just has an unfinished feeling to me. Optimization from 1.0 to 1.6 has been night and day, but that's actually not saying a lot still when 1.6 is still a struggle to not see your time compression / etc get waaaay slower by like 1900+ in the game. 1.5 and 1.6 were both big improvements but overall because of AI wonkery and lack of any kind of real economic imperialism / poor sim etc it feels better suited to a multiplayer game where several players can kind of negotiate their world, as the logic for AI is pretty inconsistent and sometimes pretty random (lol especially what great powers choose to get involved with or not). There are things im happy with like that they've added *better* conflict circa 1.5, but it's still broken / pathfinding wonkery right out the day 1 release, frontline logic can be inconsistent and whacky, etc. I think one of the titles better systems is how the game tracks colonization, namely that its an encroachment of territory occupied by what colonial powers would otherwise consider 'decentralized' and that it can generate tension and conflict. Tbh i feel like i get more out of narrative stories like Spuds play throughs etc than playing the game myself because I just find myself butting up against the games lacking areas or disappointed with how they implemented things.

In Victoria 3, I think the best nation to play for good challenge but not 10 hours of waiting around is Chile. It has 1000 things to take care of, but Ive ended playthroughs with them where 70% of Central and South America is conquered as well as pacific islands. You have to deal with impassable terrain, factions of equal size all around you and a much bigger one behind them, you start with tragically bad infrastructure and urban sectors everywhere, and so many cultures causing discontent. Trade routes are almost non existent at the start and trying anything related to democracy will break your nation. Your starting army is a little better at the start than those around you but not by much or for long. If you want to win or do well, you must use every bit of your Authority and Bueracracy and learn to accept that 35-60% of your population might just be radicals, you must be the most aggressive player possible otherwise Argentina and Peru-Bolivia will become too strong to take on

It's such a silly sounding thing but something is very satisfying about watching the people go to and fro along dirt tracks on wagons to movement by rail to cars and airships appearing. The territories changing as you develop and you start to see the street lights shining in the night, the university you just built showing up, etc. Like I never noticed how much that could add to the enjoyment of a strategy game until I picked up Victoria 3 and saw it really done well.
