I absolutely love how the map looks in the endgame! Almost resembles looking out an airplane window at a city with denser urban areas (the districts) surrounded by farmland or light industry (the exploited city tiles) and then a little bit of untamed land in between it all
@5sparks3 жыл бұрын
Pollution is such an underbaked and blatantly untested mechanic in this game. It's so debilitating to the point that you're better off just not even touching anything that produces it, especially considering the absolutely insane potential of cities without any pollution infrastructure. They don't even add enough in the short term to justify completely killing your city with no recourse in the mid to long term. Maybe grab a handful of train stations and that's it.
@insanity_83243 жыл бұрын
From -50% to -100% is a bit much, yeah. With the polution-negating techs being so much further down the tree than where pollution actually starts, it's really difficult to avoid the penalties. And forests seem to be a good way to curb your pollution but when you consider that it takes away a workable tile (and you need a few dozen for them to be effective), it becomes clear that it's not enough. I'm all for pollution coming with consequences but making an entire city LITERALLY useless seems overkill. It also makes Civs like Australia unplayable in most cases. They either need to nerf pollution or make a district that is dedicated to reducing it. Edit: Spelling
@benabaxter3 жыл бұрын
It's also ahistorical. Heavily polluted areas do suffer consequences, but in game mechanics those are best represented by a loss of stability and a mitigation, not elimination, of food. You should also be able to feed cities with food from other cities, though. Or you should have pollution limited to where those buildings actually are---maybe this is already the case. A total food loss with no way to mitigate or undo it? Ahistorical.
@IanDoesMagic3 жыл бұрын
It feels like they're trying to make a point instead of make a good game mechanic, it's way too easy to destroy the world with a few airports, train stations, and city upgrades. The game is pretty imbalanced right now in general though so my guess is it will improve.

@bensrandomshows14823 жыл бұрын
Well its still being developed, clearly got some balance issues
@insanity_83243 жыл бұрын
@@bensrandomshows1482 I'm honestly not convinced that these are balance issues per se. Let's not forget that none of the FIMS (Food, Industry, Money, Science) can win you the game alone. Having that much science might seem over powered (and even while I write this, I acknowledge that it probably is), but how is it more or less overpowered than the 11k production I had in my city near the end of my game. I was building 2-3 districts per turn as opposed to someone elses 2-3 techs. Remember, the way you win the game is fame, and so, while that much science may help you in certain scenarios (like war), it will give you just as much fame (from era stars) as the production I had in my game. I feel that the game intentionally speeds up the later you get and I personally love that about Humankind. The real balance issues for me don't come from the fact that some civs are too strong, but rather that some are too weak. Edit: I do think this game has some more balancing to do, however I don't think the strength of the "insane" civs are one of them. After all, "If everyone is super, no one will be".

I've been having trouble making it this far in the game because I find domination extremely easy. Just did Assyria into Huns and accidentally won before I really got to pilot the Mongolian hordes. Being able to instantly spawn 4 horseman with 7 movement and ranged attacks is ridiculously overpowered, and I don't see how any AI could legitimately stop it. You don't have to have any tech for them. You spawn them with influence off 4 population outposts in sets of 4. You can split them off into 2 stacks and pillage everything to spawn more of them like Neolithic units. And I haven't tested it yet, but if "War Slaves" sends the population to your nearest outpost (as opposed to nearest city) then I'm pretty sure that the steamroll would be unstoppable. Granted, if you tech and build the way that i did and fail to win, it might get really hard to. I was *technically* losing the game fame wise.

@Mezmorizorz3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. If yield porn and making 4 things a turn while researching 2 techs a turn is your thing man oh man do I have the game for you, but there are busted things and there are balanced things. You just do the busted things every game because they're busted. The micromanagement is also beyond tedious. Every district you make needs to be placed on the map manually, and for a good ~100 turns in the average game your cities are producing these districts EVERY. SINGLE. TURN. To add a slap in the face, the automatic city management button doesn't even have options to automate "lazy but proper" empire management. Gold sucks and you should never be gunning for it. Use what you have to accelerate things occasionally because proper play gives you a good amount passively, but the gold to production ratio is like 20:1. For similar reasons, food isn't particularly important and you don't want farmers. There are only 4 options. I don't need presets. Please just give me a UI that is F=P=M=S where you can swap tiles around and change the = to >. I'm surprised he complained about workers when you have this problem in this game tbh. Especially the Civ 6 incarnation of workers. At least in civ when I have the game in the bag I can actually just hit end turn ad nauseum. Here end turn is a simple 30 click process... I also strongly disagree with potato on them nailing the art style. Civ IV nailed the 4X art style. The map is alive and you can tell what everything is at a glance. Humankind is decently pretty but yeesh, do I have absolutely no idea what anything actually is without hovering over it and reading the tool tip. This is also a problem because district placement matters and terrain matters more than it does in most 4X games. The end result being a terrible aesthetic because it's not functional.
