I’m doing a Nzinga game right now with voidsingers, reliquaries, etc. Got a huge wonder start and built TOA with 4 camps and 3 plantations. Gone fore lots of holy sites, harbours, commercial huts, industrial zones. I’m taking it slow and now am on turn 160ish and with lots of relics cause of Mont St Michel, 800+ science, 1000+ culture, 1500 faith per turn, 3500 GPM. Yeah life is nice

I dislike the religion mechanic so I generally ignore religion entirely. However, when I do found a religion, I make sure to always take the debater promotion and to keep my debaters alive at 1 charge for the rest of the game. Killing enemy religious units in theological debate is by far the most cost-effective way to maintain/expand a religion, or even go for a religious victory.

I just finished a religious game as Ethiopia and to my northeast I had Basil/Byzantine and I was struggling keeping my religion alive in the early game so what I did after they converted my capital for the third time was place a Debater unit in every city I had so that I could protect myself, I managed to convert all of Norway who was pretty much caught in the crossfire so it turned out quite cost effective in the end. Definitively gonna starting getting that upgrade more

In case no-one else mentioned it, you can also buy traders with faith under monumentality. Can sometimes be very handy. Get an internal to kick-start a new city, up the gold etc. My niche MVP play with this was to Suze 3 City States and lock in another golden age (saving other score in the same way potato did here.) One got 3rd envoy for trade route, two wanted the inspiration for Faires.

John Curtin actually voted himself as being the target of 100% more Grievances because it ties into his civ's intended playstyle (basically world police, protecting other civs from warmongerers) and he wouldn't go on offensive wars anyway, so the Grievance penalties wouldn't matter to him while also discouraging other civs from declaring war on him (a Surprise War dec would give them massive levels of Grievances). However, this is ultimately a self-defeating maneuver by the AI because John's AI doesn't give a rat's hairy backside about "intended playstyle" and will absolutely go to war if they so desire and because Australia's leader ability is poorly defined/coded, this means that anyone who wants to stop them by counter declaring (or worse, gets pulled into an Alliance War) is feeding him extra production. Remember, if your ally gets attacked, YOU declare war on the offender. Because YOU declared war on John Curtin in retaliation to his aggression, his leader ability activates.

Hey Potato, there was no reason to hold off on converting cities for era score. You were only getting era score for conversions during your normal era, and once the era ended and you entered a golden age you stopped getting era points.

I am currently playing a deity game with Nzinga Mbande. Disgusting really. Easiest deity game I've ever played. Soothsayers, good starting location at one end of a pangea map where I could forward settle to block incursions into a huge tract of land all to myself. Currently in Renaissance Era and close to winning a cultural victory.

I have to say, the congress option for luxuries - in my experience it's basically always the one that's at the bottom of the list. I.e. the one that has the most improved copies. Almost 100% of the time.

I am unconvinced by the value of super early game chops given how builders charges are much more valuable. With fewer builder charges, it takes much longer to develop so surely in the long run it costs you production instead of gain? Obv this is irrelevant when chopping wonders or in a monumentality golden age.

I choose to chop on flatland, and save the hills if I can. Unless I wanna replace a rainforest or woods with a mine. But it’s very true that those builder charges are super valuable and account for a good amount of the would-be profit you make from the chop. But for me if it’s a 2-1 tile, then I chop since it’s hardly a workable tile anyway.

@@coldfusion230 depending on the city I might chop flatlands to make farms so the city can grow big. Especially because floodplains are better used for districts. I also chop flatland with the intent to place districts. I prefer not to put districts on hills. For raw production it's better to chop hills, and spare flat land, but for city planning this works better for me.

I would also like to point out that 2 religious suzerains with Kilwa + Congo + chorus on Voidsingers = 5% (of faith) boost to gold, science and culture of all cities (if they are on same continent), in addition to the 25% boost to faith. (and in the city that has the kilwa it's 8%!) In-sane combo!

The biggest irk I have in Civ 6 is how aggro the AI is towards City States and how there is no real negative effect for them doing this. Especially razing a city, in a real world scenario, this would turn the entire world against your society. Drives me nuts!!!
