Austin isn't a cheap ship, but it looked like a fun one so I decided to get it. I'm very happy with how fun it is, even if it is a bit situational.

A full AA spec Austin does over 500+ continuous damage and 2600+ on explosions. With that kind of damage with Def AA, I have killed entire FDR squadrons. It was glorious.

Holy... Not even full spec AA Halland can do that. Maybe the FDR I met has full survivability build. That damned FDR was flying leisurely in the mids of my team and kept targeting my full AA build Halland. Needless to say, I died after several attack squadrons

Sorry Potato... anyone in a ship that costs that much steel has got to be a worthy target of most teams. While they 'might' have known who you were, your assassination of two ships early on and then the surprise butt sex on the Balty made you a supremely juicy target for them all..... especially as the rest of your team did fairly scrub performance. I'll never have that much steel so I will never have to worry about the Austin. Nice video. Enjoyed it greatly!

Man me and my buddies had soo much fun playing this game in the open world sandbox mode back in the day. Spent many no sleep nights just finding cool areas to do jumps and racing each other on our on tracks. I dont think anyone played this game for the missions, besides you haha. Context is important and back then having a free roam open world was so cool. Now that i think of it, nobody i knew played missions. Man very nostalgic seeing this game again even though it got a piss poor review.

The arcs are better because the drag coefficient is the second best in the game with Slava taking the first position. Also I've seen many people complain about the armor and squishy nature of the ship which I don't understand seeing it's basically an Atlanta at tier 10.

Austin is really a fun ship to play. By the way, to be a famous player in the game, like you, can be both good and bad. @Potato Quality actually at 27:12 should be an expected shot at some level. 4 dds are pushing them and if Nevsky isn't shooting you are the next only thing visible to shoot at. Provided tha the dds there aren't spotted as well.

BTW - on the 5 ships going after you after you were ID'd.... I can imagine how frustrating that gets over time, but in the case of that game it was actually giving your rather potato team a fighting chance to win by leaving the other two caps open to them. Also, it was sort of the fault of your team because since if they had not fought to draw on the other cap despite having a numerical advantage, then they would have put pressure on at least 2 or 3 of the ships hunting you and forced their attention away from you. Bottom line.... it sucks when you give your team every advantage to win and they still blow it somehow. The partial solution to that is div'ing up with good players but I find that more way cheating than riding border.

There is no mystery to this ship. It is an Atlanta/Flint upgraded to T10 with some nice gimmicks and the same fragility. If you like the play style of the Atlanta/Flint you will probably like this ship.

I said this before, not sure what video or which streamer, in my first game in Austin I took down a full HP Des Moines in one reload boost. I caught the DM broadside looking the other way at about 7km and I landed almost every shell (SAP) It felt great. I like the concealment, it really helps moving around the map. Right now I am using range mod, because dead eye.

27:00 that's actually a shot you definitely should expect from a camping/sniper BB. You're almost full broadside to them and you're fully focussed on the Yama and your reload booster. That's definitely a sneaky shot I would take.

PQ - My main question is do you think this ship has a role in CB? I was in a ranked game yesteday with a Roxy guy and I was Smolie.... the two of us carried the team so he talked to me a bit afterward. He had generally positive thoughts but said the problem was if you came across team with competent DDs or all of yours die, the Austin can get zoned off from being where it wants to be and then struggles. My take away is that it will do great when you can bring a div mate or two to mitigate that issue (or this thing with a legendary Gumo will be sick) but solo games will be a mixed bag. The fun ship side of me wants to buy it but the practical side of me wants something useful for CB like FDR (even though I don't like CV that much)

*Smolensk gets Overpenned FAR better - because she has ONLY 70mm of cit armor - which is NOT enough to arm most BB shells!* Ironically, and STUPIDLY - I ight add, the better armor is actually WORSE in practice! At least for the mid sections and citadels of "Lightly armored Ships" - basically anything with a flat ~95mm or less of citadel protection.

My first impressions of this ship was facing it in a Georgia. I was over 3/4 health at the start of the engagement, and bow in charging. I got off 2 salvos in the time it took to melt away my ship. Most of my rounds bounced while the rest over penned or splashed. (I had no idea about the 32 mm plating) I thought WG had a standard for heavy and light cruiser armor thicknesses. Looks like that went with Yamato having the largest guns in game that would NEVER be exceeded. I really hope they don`t start releasing a bunch of light cruisers with heavy cruiser armor. I suppose we should get ready for some criminal division play.

Honestly Austin so far seems like a pretty good/fun ship to play like the Colbert, only you get Italian SAP, a infinite reload booster consumable, and Fletcher torps, and really it seems like how you play most American cruisers where you hide your ship where you can get free dmg. Open water gunboating though is not recommended due to the armor and up to the map pick in the matchmaker.

The thing that makes this actually work is that the sap pens 36mm. So like bb extremeties and some hulls. Was why that repu melted.

I fought this ship last night in random quite a few times. It feels like a US Smolensk with armor being thin enough as well as the ship itself to be overpened by even thunderer HE. I'll edit and say that the HE is pretty good. When I played against it, they all used HE and set a ton of fires on me. Could have just been bad luck on me though.

American light cruisers are juicy targets and everybody knows. Always expect to be shot at if you are spotted, not just new ship syndrome. I get priority targeted every time I play a US CL and get spotted. Especially by BB's from anywhere on the map, they love to citadel US CL's.

FYI they buffed its SAP pen, so its actually a whopping 36mm so it can murder reaaaaaaal good (for context most of the armor on brit and ALL armor on french bbs are 32mm)

This ship is giggle inducingly fun if you can play it well. I ain't great but I've had a couple of moments where I absolutely melted a DD that found itself exposed under my guns, literally a hear one moment and dead the next event.

You can either keep a single captain through the entire line you are grinding, retraining him every time you get a new ship, or put your captain on a premium ship and play it a lot. There are also some 10pt captains available for gold in the armory.

So funny that, Notser's review is just the complete opposite on this and the Marco. Don't have the Austin, but have seen it in games. Upon firing at it, it seems to be a T10 Atlanta, and pretty much a glass cannon. Easy to citadel. Not sure why you would take this over the Worcester. Wiith regard to the Marco, I am finding it a decent ship to play. The 406 SAP is real cruiser killer stuff and BBs bow on at range can really be wrecked by the stuff too.

Austin if you have someone spot and smoke for you. Clan Battles and div, it is going to be deadly. Solo, not so much.

Plymouth have better Utility in match and solo play meanwhile austin need some support, Radar and smoke is broken match up so plymouth is better because is offer safer game play meanwhile austin need more strategy to make it work.

*Accuracy module is MUCH MORE USEFUL!* Just sayin.... You use those torps on occasion - but they are FAST ENOUGH stock, and the module does not change it much! Meanwhile your guns are almost ALWAYS hot - and when you pop that reload booster it become DAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKA! Basically, that 7% accuracy means 7% more of your shells will go where you tell them to. I used to use AA module on Atlanta (back when she was DECENT - and MUCH stronger in AA!) - but I found that getting more shells on target was FAR more helpful - despite stock accuracy not being bad. Also much like Dead-eye 7% is MORE THAN IT SEEMS! It lowers Vertical AND Horizontal dispersion by 7% - same deal for dead-eye and all other accuracy buffs. Sure they are MOST NOTICED on BBs - because they aren't accurate to begin with mostly (Georgia & Thunderer aside) Cruisers, and even Gunboat DDs are STILL better served with the Accuracy when possible! I am just pissed that WG STILL HAS NOT BUFFED ZAO TURRET ROTATION! Even tho she has DD dispersion, I would LOVE to be ABLE to use Accuracy mod and still have a sub 30 sec 180 time, but yanno WG NEVER buffs IJN ships - even when they DESPERATELY NEED IT! Like Mogami, Ibuki and to a lesser extent Zao. Hell even the Myoko needs to have 16 Km range, Mogami needs ~16.5 to 17 km, and Zao should have at MINIMUM 17.5 km base range! Also Zao NEEDS 8k+ more HP and a 33 sec or faster base 180 turn time - and/OR Better Turret Firing angles and/or a reload buff! At Tier 8+ all UIJN CA should have a 33 second or faster turret! Sure HE is not as strong on USN, but AP is while lower damage, MUCH stronger with those pen angles! Like how Zao has FAR better AP pen, and more AP damage than Des Moines, but Des Moines has that USN CA AP which is KILLER! Like Alaska - my favorite "Cruiser" ever actually built - which remains to this day, the BEST overall Tier 9 "Cruiser" and one of the best all around ships in the game regardless of tier. Alaska pen SUCKS compared to Kronshtadt and especailly versus Stalingrad - but neither of them have the SAME god tier pen angles on their AP! Stalingrad is close tho, and her batshit insane levels of pen which are better than basically any 380mm gun in the game - kinda make up for the SLIGHTLY lacking pen angles which are still FAR better than Standard! The only better pen angles in the game are British Light Cruiser AP and SAP

speaking as a heavy dd player, spotting is completely unrewarded by this game and the players, no one thanks you for it, no one gives you karma for it, so i don't blame someone for not risking themselves by spotting for someone else. I will do it in my Holland all the time, because spotting only means i'm getting into position to torp launch, but i don't bother in my shima, mostly because the shima is a much less balanced ship then the holland and easily killed if spotted.

I focus more on trying to win, spotting is extremely important for that. Players are selfish though. Any dd sitting in smoke like the shima did here is just bad play. You can spot without putting yourself at much risk if you position well and don't make risky plays. You need to spot what is pushing into you as well so you don't get ambushed. Always have an escape route, back your dd's into the cap if you want to cap etc.

@@basslover352 I don't have a team to play with, but sometimes i'll team up in game. of course if you're teaming, you spot for someone. furthermore, any shima sitting in smoke deserves to die to the inevitable torps shot blindly into the smoke in hopes of getting the idiot in the smoke. While I don't do much spotting in my shima, my smoke is for escapes and smoking up CA/BB on my team not myself.

first off i have to say great review of the ship, second you cant be mad when you post vids online and get mad when people focus you, your a great player and will clap people all day third take is as a compliment your better than most and if people do recognize you its because of your you tube so.........

It's not your "fame" which got you focussed down in the end. Being famous all too quickly leads to a perception of "they all know me" and "all they do is because of me". Be careful. This is a pathway to narcissism and overall insanity, if I may say so. Just be you and don't overstate what other people do. Everyone gets focussed down once in a while. Has nothing to do with being "big in WoWs". I get you had to change your name. Just look at the big boys like jingles, flamu or flambass. You have 15,5k subs aroundish now. People recognizing you in-game is just normal. Even if you change your name. You are streaming.

@@snafufubar I think the point still stands... They named him later, at a point when it was reasonable to worry about an Austin at the back of them with 3 kills... Take out the fact that it's PQ and it's still something that would have likely happened. I'm not going to say it doesn't suck to be focused but the point that assuming that's the case or getting so focused on it isn't healthy is perfectly legitimate regardless of that one game. If you Stream, do KZbin and/or are one of the game's pros... Expect this sort of attention and learn to deal with it. PQ happens to fall into all three categories. Unfortunately that means getting focused. Yep it's frustrating but it comes with the territory. Not to mention it's an Austin... Within the first few days of a patch it was released... ... ...

That doesn't mean *everyone* was aware *all the time* renamedUser was him. It also doesn't mean, they focused him because of being him. Like, it's literally proofing nothing but a bunch (not all) realized who he is few minutes before the game ended.

@@SappeREffecT Cheers. I know it may sound fabricated, but roughly a month ago I appeared in a stream by flamu. It's been the first time I tried playing Richthofen and ofc I messed up. That's not the point though. My point is, everyone noticed Flamu being in the game shortly after the game started. Did he get focussed? No, he didn't. In fact, in many flamu videos you see people noting his presence, without everyone chasing after him... Yes, stream sniping and "getting more attention" due to "fame" is a thing in wows, despite what I just said. Still, it's not the most important factor imho. In this particular PQ video, I don't perceive his "popularity factor" as the main reason, why he got focused in the end of the game. If I would have been one of the Nevsky's, I would have gone for Austin as well. No matter who's driving it. In this situation it just seems more or less natural. I also don't think the Nevsky's went to that flank because of PQ driving Austin. In fact, they were moving away until PQ killed Balti. At that exact moment Austin was the most juicy target for both Nevsky's and that bismarck. So why wondering they were focusing him? He's an Austin which just shredded a baltimore almost in drive-by fashion and he went down to 50% HP, after the initial return fire by Nevsky's. Ofc they go after him.
