And don't forget it doesn't detect anything if the sub is 0.1 km out of your 8km range, the duration is pathetic, and cooldown is long - so you can waste all your sub hydro, and never detect the sub all game. And with this Tier 6 hull armor, and slow speed you cant push to get it in range either - nobody is gonna play these over Venezia and Zao.

Hydro should have been the main counter to subs. If a sub makes a mistake and goes close within 5km of a hydro ship, it should get punished, just like a DD player getting too close to a radar ship. But WG decided to make it so that even the most stupid player has to try really hard to get caught in the 2km hydro range.

The biggest change they could do. Is to make hydro for Destroyers have 3km range on subs. So, if a submarine on surface or Periscope depth gets Hydro'd they are HARD screwed! As there is no escape.

They should make Hydro work like this. It will detect subs if the subs is moving at the max engine speed. The detection is smaller if the subs slowing down. Any subs action within 3km will detect them immediately. That’s include reloading torpedoes and moving up or down. Hydro will detect subs within 10km when the subs have maximum speed. In order to not being detected. Subs must be at halt not going or down. Torpedoes must not be on the reload or fully loaded. If you can pass this conditions, then subs will be undetected. Pinging will also result to produce maximum noises. To make this hydro fair, subs will have only 2s detect duration once they not being detected by hydro. This will definitely prevent shotgunning 90% of the time and force subs to be more passive. Works as the spotter. Lonely subs are dead subs.

@@wissy006 Yeah, I got the ideas from Warthunder. Their DD Hydro detect subs based on how much noise the subs produces. Less noise = harder to detect. Maybe makes Hydro to detect subs depends on the noise based would make it interesting. But there’s a catch. During Storm or Cyclone. Hydro Efficiency will be drop by 50%. This means Subs can be at best in the storm. However, the sonar ping also going to be 50% less effective and only last half of its duration.

Edit: 9:06 Yeah crawling smoke is just regular smoke but with a long duration set time, you only get the cover from it while moving forward. Fun fact on that, any ship with a smoke screen can do a short crawl with their smoke, Pan-Asian smoke screens are okay for it, where you quarter speed to move a bit while setting the smoke down.

@@paranidherc right? There’s so many ships I would rather not attack that don’t have what’s considered “strong” AA. For example: Bourgogne, Minotaur, Montana, Daring, Napoli, etc. Armor is also something to take into account as well. If a ship has a good armor layout, then I often don’t want to attack them either - like playing Nahk and attacking a Napoli or playing Haku and attacking a Kremlin or Yamato. Each cv has its good and bad matchups, and while I think AA does need a buff, no single ship needs to be a no fly zone 100% of the time

Nevermind that no, that's not how sonar works, it doesn't matter if the sub has its engine turned off or not, as long as it's there it will be detected by the waves and a sound will be heard from the rebounding wave of the sonar. Sonar is like radar but with sound waves emitted from the source to check for objects, and it's underwater.

Subs pings need to be 100% accurate. Let the subs have homing torps, but have a significant downside to ping the target. Then there is at least an illusion of counter play.

Submarines have been nerfed. And when they ping? They are now easier to see where the direction they are going at. Still not 100% but now you can now know the actual spot where they are at. Giving you a greater chance to splash damage them with your ASW planes.

From what I can recall from memory, the submarine “ping” that shows up on the surface varies depending on the angle of them pinging. If they’re maximum depth, it can be 3km away from the ping due to it taking a diagonal route. On the surface, it’s a bit frustrating as they can be so close to you, and the moment they realize they’re getting too close to you they can go periscope and suddenly have a 2km detection range. That’s what has been punishing my div mates a ton more now is just the perma-lit by a periscope sub as most ships really don’t have the means to counter a sub other than running away… truly shows the vision WeeGee is wanting with brawling… oh wait…

Here's an idea for a smoke concept. It charges while you don't use it. Then you can activate and deactivate it at your discretion, and resume charging when use is not needed. So you don't waste the smoke.

No PQ, the ping indicateors are usually +/- 2km, I've got a screen shot taken just a couple of seconds apart in my NC, showing where two pings were for a sub as I dropped ASW on both of them, they were 2km apart, the worst part was the sub was 2km closer to me between both surface pings. Now I'd be fine with subs if they had to operate under the same detection mechanics as everyone else. The surface ping maker should be right where the sub is, just like detection bloom for guns.

Hydro spots Subs. If youre only on perescope depth, you get spottet on the range the hydro have. If your dive deeper, more than periscope, your spottet within 2 km proxi range.

Hydro can’t spot subs because it would have the capacity to spot them for far too long. I know that as a surface ship player, it’s really easy to get super frustrated with subs, and don’t get me wrong, they do have many problems and need some serious balancing, but some hydros run for 2 or more minutes, and that would either prevent the sub from doing anything at all for that length of time, or even worse get it immediately nuked. Subs are a class in the game and they do need to be able to have some sort of battle impact and effectiveness, maybe just not as much as they do now with very little counter. But wargaming is adding counterplay with the submarine surveillance consumables. 20 seconds is plenty long enough to cause some serious damage to a sub and ruin all of its plans, or get it killed outright. The length of hydro consumables would be far too much.

I’ve been getting in the habit of loading HE and shooting where the pings are coming from. If you know they’re on the surface or periscope, there’s a good chance the splash damage from the HE will catch them and force them to dive to avoid further salvos

Hey PQ, you talked about the turret traverse being slow and on the Cerberus it is, being 30s base, but do you also know that turret traverse is also bugged? I first noticed it at the end of last CB's. 30s base traverse then slotting reload module in slot 6 penalizes it to 33.9s. Then adding Grease the Gears should improve it to 28.8s, but the Artillery box says its still 30s.

Just a reminder that the Submarine Surveilance consumable only spots submarines that are UNDERWATER. A lot players who don't play sub confused how it works as the consumable is the same on the sub itself. If a sub surface roughly around 6km near you and you pop your sub radar with a range of 7 or 8km you will not spot him as he on the surface. The sub needs to be underwater for you to detect them. Also, I understand PQ frustration about the subject but at this point it's kinda pointless to complain anyway as WG already made up their minds about subs.

Nah. Hindenburg is a long range high explosive spammer, it just happens to have torpedoes. Cerberus is a short range high explosive spammer, it just happens to have torpedoes. You can compare it with Perth (aside from the tier), Vampire II (aside from the class) or Colbert (aside from the smoke) but within the tech trees, Des Moines would be the closest since you should be protecting caps (but against submarines).

I genuinely think WG is afraid to make heavy cruisers that feel like heavy cruisers anymore. Take away the smokescreen, give it good maneuverability and acceleration, a superheal, and actually give it enough armor to not get torn apart by even non-IFHE spammers. Submarines, perfect additions to the game or so I'd actually agree with if they allowed hydro to auto-detect any submarine within the ship detectability range regardless of depth (cus that's what it was actually used for). Instead we get this shitty consumable that only does its job if they're underwater (does NOT make any sense). Somehow my dad who only plays Co-op supports this shit and the only thing that runs through my brain is "go soil yourself or play some random and tell me how fun it is" (he refuses to play randoms for very stupid reasons that can all be avoided through settings).

I'm praying for this patch to end soon, wargaming announced the "nerfs" on submarines and it looks like the cockroaches decided to come out of the woodwork, every game has a submarine in this patch

You're mistaken: Wargaming is not nerfing submarines. Submarines have the lowest game impact of all classes so the first submarine change patch got buffs as well (13.1), the second submarine change patch got buffs as well (13.2), and the third submarine change patch which they haven't covered yet is exclusively buffs as well (13.3? 13.4?). This is like January to June? Wargaming made it easier to interact with submarines, but they intend to make them better, so you should expect a lot more people to start playing more submarines.

I hate CVs and Subs too...to the point where I just stopped playing. Instead of having fun, I would feel nothing but frustration in not having the correct tools to deal wirth CVs and subs.

They probably want you to team up with a radar ship to make sure to spot a sub in an area, and then all your depth charges will miss anyway cause of the maneuverability buff lmao

Nah, you don't need to. The trick is to be near a cap where a submarine wlil inevitably dive and trigger the Submarine Surveillance so your team airstrikes it. It doesn't matter if the submarine can surface to avoid it, the airstrikes will already be launched, so no need for Surveillance Radar as well.

they gave more cruisers sub surveillance, buffed some asw (well, more like brought the bad asw like ohio back up to normal for the tier asw), and changed hydrophone ...but they also made subs significantly more maneuverable so even if you can see them, it's hard to actually get depth charge hits so overall it was mostly a sub buff

Can't, it does become easier as the account gets older because your pool of maxed out captains on premiums/ships you play increases. Though I understand that does not help you now. Every time they do a captain skill update they offer free resets, so keep an eye out for then if you want to experiment with builds, though its easier to just look them up rather than speccing random skills.

Stupidly weak ship against a sub. Ive encountered Cerberus numerous times on a U4501 and i just laughed at them so hard while nuking them everytime.

And till today there are people still thinks sub are balanced. Imagine giving DD a consumables, that could last 5 mins, and when this consumables is active he is immune to radar, hydro can only detect in 2 km, and you cannot be hit by any shells. If you think that is stupid than we are on the same boat.

I find it odd that PQ kept comparing this to relatively irrelevant cruisers; DesMo is a CL masquerading as a CA, of course it's gonna out DPM this one this comparison tells me diddly dick all, Goliath has bigger guns and is specifically designed around dropping the fattest HE salvos. Surely the most direct comparison would be Zao, 12 x 203mm without distinct gimmicks (looking at you Hinden, with the 1/4 HE pen)
I certainly agree on the sub surveillance usefulness, if it spots subs should spot them everywhere. As for why they just didnt give them a hydro with range, well DDs would be wrecked, so have to protect them i guess. But no excuse for the sub surveillance issue. I dont see me rushing out to get this boat, slow turrets, lack luster AP, got plenty of HE spammers.

Personal guess: about five to seven more videos until PQ breaks down from all the sub bullshittery and goes on an extended break. Because in about five videos 13.2 will hit with even more sub buffs. Yeah, shotgunning gets nerfed but I already see plenty of subs practicing playing without relying on shotgunning (including myself, because I practice sub-hunting as sub). And, oh boy, with the buffs to the non-shotgunning playstyle it will be hilarious (hilarious here means HELL). The one hilarious thing (ok, still in the way of "retarded") is that a lot of sub-vs-sub combat gets actually nerfed by the torpedo gradual damage changes, so your team's subs won't be able to help as much against the opponent's subs as before, which may lead to subs harrassing surface ships even more. Genius, WG, genius! Please look forward to it.

subs are not going away anytime soon and wg is not even trying to hide it
