I've been a Bluesky user since May 13th, 2023, and I've helped hundreds of users migrate from Twitter to Bluesky since. I remember when we were still waiting for invite codes! This tutorial does a great job of covering all of the basics you need to get started without any information that would be confusing or overwhelming to a first-time user. I look forward to sharing this with folks and saving myself a lot of time. Thanks for making this! If you're interested in making more like these, I would really like to see a tutorial in the future that covers how to change your domain handle and how to make a custom feed, because those are (less common) questions I commonly encounter.

Wow! You've explained a lot! Thank you! I do have one slight problem.... How do I know which one of my posts someone replied to? I click on Notifications and either ALL or MENTIONS and can see their reply but can't figure out which of my posts they are replying to. When I click on their reply, it just takes me to their reply and not my post. Am I making any sense?

You're making total sense! What's weird is I have the same issue on other social network platforms too. The ability to trace back to the original post is super frustrating. But first, are you on mobile or desktop? It might be different between them. (Oh, and have you followed me! Let's be social on the social network!)

Thanks for the kind words. I used the Chrome browser installed on Windows for the Bluesky tutorial. Perhaps you're on a Mac or using an iPad? The app changes a bit from device to device.

Can you only use bluesky on your mobile device or can you use it on your computer, as well. I can't get past adding my profile picture on my computer - I've tried 3 tutorials and none of them are helping.

The demo I put together here uses a Windows 10 desktop computer with the Chrome browser. The only problem I had uploading a handsome photo of myself was finding a handsome photo of myself. My only guess is maybe the resolution is too high or too low? Do you get an error, or does it just not stick around after uploading it? (Oh, and welcome to Bluesky!)

Hashtags have become somewhat meaningless on most social media. They aren't special like they were 15 years ago, but, they can help your post get found in a specific keyword, so there's nothing wrong with peppering one or two in there. Don't ever go more than 2 though. Most social media platforms demote posts with more than 2.

When I searched Bluesky in KZbin and filtered on This Month for time, your video was burried amongst a chorus of whining right wing podcasters who believe they should have the right to infiltrate anyone's space to spew whatever they want. They rant against the block feature. I want to know more about the domain integration/connection. How would you set it up for your business where I always longed for my business site to have SM integrated into it? And since it's on a domain I own and pay for I have the right to control the content on it and who gets in, just like I have right to control who's on my property or is allowed in my home. The first amendment never guaranteed you right wingers access to my property, which includes my personal self, a core principle of the constitution.

Thanks for watching! The discourse around social media these days indeed gets tiring. I have a video coming out about how to set your domain name as your handle. It's easy to do. Your data? I have a video on that too. Your data is on a server someone controls. In theory they can do whatever they want with your account. Same goes with X or Facebook. But... You can actually create your own server and connect it. That's what my next video is about. In that case, you indeed have full control over everything, and nobody can delete your account or your remove your data. The BlueSky architecture is far more interesting than the social media platform itself. It's very well designed.
