Clover fixes the nitrogen in the soil, just like beans in the field.

Well does it fix it after it died? I killed it, those spots were yellow for a month. Now dark dark green

I was thinking the same thing. Clover is nitrogen fixing. Maybe the N is liberated and becomes available to the grass when the clover dies.

This is exactly what someone else said as well. It releases it as it dies. This now makes a lot more sense!

Lawn looks great. Just got my Amick aerator in. I have some footage of the scalping. Still a bit hot out but I think maybe a couple more weeks and I’ll get started on the reno. Jesse, you should have memberships so we can donate automatically on a monthly basis, if even a couple bucks for little incentives like custom badges or what not. Hey man, have if you're doing a full reno - have you killed your grass yet? If you haven't you should. You're going to want to water the dead grass for a couple of weeks and apply another round of gly before you seed. Just throwing that out there. I mean to be honest I thought about it, but I didn't want to hawk a couple bucks from a few ppl that really wanted to donate. I'll turn on the superthanks option where you can donate whatever you want to on a video, but I think I'm gonna leave out memberships for now. I appreciate you wanting to help the channel out, but there's enough work going on between the two channels and the business side of things that I didn't really want to add on more. I almost turned this channel into a membership channel, but ultimately decided against it. Thank you for your continued support man. It means the world to me, honestly!

@@lawnlifevlogs no worries. We appreciate the advise and want to contribute. I’m hesitant about gly because I’d prefer not to use chemicals. But I have considered it. My plan was to just scalp, dethatch, verticut, aerate, and over seed the heck out of it in hopes it would overtake the lawn over time.

I understand your concerns. How big is the area you're working with?

@@lawnlifevlogs I’m starting with the front so it’s about 1800 sqft. Not too big. Once I learn this process and become more proficient, I’ll do the back which is 2000 sqft.

Nice! If you decide to not use gly, just make sure you put down the new seed super thick. Like at least 10 lbs per K

Clover is a nitrogen holder once it dies it release it to the soil. Doc talks about that a lot he loves clover. Your grass is looking amazing I wish there was blackout for southern lawns

Thanks for the clarification on this! I would love clover too if if covered my entire lawn and then I killed it, but this spotty color sucks tbh. As for southern lawn seed, I've heard most are hard to grow from seed. Is this correct? If there's a market for it, I'll definitely look into it.

Your dark green spots are because there's less grass there, and it's grown wider. Light reflects off of grass too show the light stripes, and doesn't reflect as well in areas where the grass is laying toward you. The dark green, in my opinion, is temporary until the kbg fills back in fully.

Ditch the plastic in your beds. It works well on sidewalks. Other than that it doesn’t work well when the grass gets long. Just leaves clippings everywhere.

Lawn looks great and I definitely need to add the rotary scissors to the line up! I used your blackout TTTF/KGB for my front reno a few months back and it turned out great. Will definitely be over seeding this fall after I remove my tree in front.

I bought the same rotary scissors on Prime day also for my Stihl Kombi battery weed eater and it will take some time to learn how to edge. I did the same thing you did (after work) and realized I was gonna get the yard trimmed up that night, the following weekend I took my time and went very slow cutting in the new edges and WOW, it’s easy to do now and looks great. I had to laugh when you said the price of the Ego system, I wish now I had bought it. I bought a Stihl 510V self propelled mower and the Kombi system and Sthils blower, I could have put a down payment on a car!

Lol. I'm so glad someone felt the same growing pains I did with it. It's kind of foreign at first. I'm starting to get a little used to it. Those things are LOUD though holy. I was not expecting it to be THAT loud. Hopefully those tools last you a long time with putting down that kind of money! I'm off to buying an EGO blower now...smh

Yes it definitely possible, just go to town with the scarifier/dethatcher and go heavy on the overseed rate. I'm very happy with how it turned out!

@@BleuxvBenji When I killed mine, I did it July 4th weekend. So definitely not early. You want to water the dead area as much as possible to get out any grass that is still alive or weed seeds lying dormant. So if anything you might be late 😬

I struggle with the battle between the feel and look of the grass at 0.75" and the color at 1.25". Color is so much darker at that length at least on my lawn anyway.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I don't lose much color until I go below 0.75. If I go to 5/8ths it looks yellow to me, so I don't go that low anymore. So it's probably the same situation you're in with 1.25 to .75. Do you know what cultivars you have in your lawn?

@@lawnlifevlogs last 2 years I overseeded with the seed superstore ss9000 mix of prg but I bought twin city's obsidian mix for this year (came out before your blackout mix and they had a deal, sorry about that lol). So we'll see if that helps with the color a bit this year.

I’m doing an overseed this fall myself 🔥 BALL!! Curious what your thoughts are on putting peat moss over seed?? Seems back and forth between channels.

Let's go! Think of peat moss as insurance. It's going to help keep the seed moist and help with run off if any storms pop up, but it's definitely not necessary if you can keep your soil moist the entire time through germination. I don't like using it because it's extra cost and messy as hell, but it definitely has some benefits to using it.

I ran out of daylight and the cut was really weird trying to take it out of the video, so I'm going to show you on the next one. Basically, it's a 3/4'' plate that goes on the bottom of the scissors so you can set it on the ground and get a uniform cut at that height. No more holding it in the air trying to be steady.

Use the non blade side of the tool against the plastic edge. You have to stand in the rock bed. No more burning plastic smell and tight edges.

Annihilator, Brute, Barbarian, and Chanelle. Most come the McCarthy research farm where Fireball and Hattrick were produced. Super dark for fescue.

That's what I kind of thought as well. A lot of comments are saying that clover releases nitrogen as it dies, which also makes a lot of sense now. Probably a combination of the two!
