Potential Dodgers trade offers for Bo Bichette

It’s funny how the same people who don’t want Bichette are usually clamoring for a washed up Nolan Arenado. Bichette is only 1 year removed from a bonafide all star season. He’s young, he’s a rental so no financial commitment, plays SS even with his defense being shaky he would be an upgrade defensively at SS compared to Mookie. He would allow the dodgers to stop gap and allow Freeland to develop and be ready for a September call up. For the right price Bichette would be amazing in LA. Now this is a guy you can use the “Change of Scenery” rhetoric for as he is young, in a contract year, and dealt with nagging minor injuries last season. Unlike a washed Nolan who is in his mid 30s and has a decline that goes back to 2023.

I don't think I would call Arenado washed up just yet. Paul Goldschmidt, maybe, but not Arenado. We have players who are getting into the Michael Busch zone, so this trade is possible.

@@paulgodbey304 Goldy actually was still hitting the ball very well. He may be old, but he wasn't washed up. Arenado on the other hand, was significantly worse at hitting the ball that Goldy was. Arenado is washed. Goldy isn't.

I don't want Bo, but I do think he's less of a risk than Arenado, and has potential to get right again. I just don't think he'll be anything special, even for a rental. I rather have Mookie and Lux than Bo and Mookie. Nothing loss if Lux doesn't figure it out--well, aside from likely Lux via trade. Not so sure I buy change of scenery bullshit, unless Jay's stadium is a pitcher's park.

@@ryanc9876 I think Mookie is great - but his hitting did suffer when he was at short last season. The same thing will happen but on a much bigger scale this season. Deciding to move from right, even from second, to short stop is very difficult even for established stars like Mookie. And in my opinion, the front office is going along with what Mookie wants. If you asked quietly, where Mookie couldn't hear them, they'd agree with me.

@@mattyman5dodge101 I'm not sure his hitting was suffering because of his play at short. It wasn't long of a sample size to really say for sure. And last year was more of a "surprise, you're the new shortstop" on short notice--no pun intended. But I still believe Mookie is going to surprise everyone who doubts him again. I also see this as a short-term solution to short...again with the "short" stuff...

The other reason why I don't agree that it was related was because Mookie started off on a torrid pace to start to year AT shortstop, offensively. People also attributed it to being the new position. I didn't agree then, I don't agree now. I'll wait and see. And if it doesn't work, I know they have plan B's and maybe even C's in place.

Life long Dodgers fan here, living in Toronto area. Able to see Bo play and this guy can hit. Sometimes stuck in a crappy lineup and tried to do it all himself. I always thought he'd be a great Dodger, not completely sold on trading for him yet But the guy can hit and in a lineup of stars he could be super dependable if healthy

I think Bo would thrive in the Dodgers lineup the same way Teo did. Anyone would. Having the 3 mvp’s batting 1, 2 n 3,, and then sandwiched anywhere with Will, Max, and Conforto, Edmonds, is a formula towards career #’s. Mix in the Dodgers way, coaching, and trust in every batter. I think the Dodgers could give part with some minor league talent. They seem to have know where to play them, every year. Get it done! Also, If Teo is seeking 22-24m for 3 years, wtf is the problem? They made him a QO, he could have said yes. I was worried they are competing with 3/85, or 4/110 for a team who lost out on Soto.

Dodgers were open to trade Lux/Hunter F for Devin Williams. The only other trade with Lux that makes sense is for a SS. I’d use this trade to open up roster spots. Bo for Lux/HunterF/CT3/Knack/$. Blue jays wouldn’t do that trade. Then again I think Lux alone is an over pay to me so use the trade to move CT3. My preference would be to keep Lux. Bo is going to be difficult to sign to an extension so he is a one year rental.

Lol. No. Vlad is great, but he's a horrible first-baseman. He'd be best where they can DH him. He'd be 1B or DH and probably would be more valuable as a DH than a 1B if you can get someone who's not horrible defensively at first. And Freddie is Freddie...soooo not much gonna change at first until he moves. I almost wonder if they'll resign him another year after his contract if he's still productive.

As a blue jays fan.. believe me, you guys want Bo Bichette. Had a lot of injury problems last year, apparently had off the field issues. Prior to last season, he had 4/5 seasons of honestly being one of the flat out best hitters in the American League. Bo Bichette to the dodgers would be a big problem for the rest of baseball. It’s a contract year, he’ll be motivated, had a ton of time to get healthy .. A Bo Bichette who is in form playing for the LA dodgers would be something special.

I can't overlook the team's $103 million luxury tax bill for '24. So, I can see trading for Bichette ending the talks to re-sign Teo, because Bichette will make around $17.5 million in '25, when the team will likely remain in the Cohen 110% tax bracket.

The Dodgers are pretty much set for the 2024/25 season. They can use a 'Lee Smith' type, closer though. Heck, they've got so many pitchers it'll be interesting if they can convert of 'em. I can see Dustin May coming in for the 9th. IF, he's healthy.

At best Bo's value should be about 11-15 million in trade value. Also while baseball trade values isn't the end all be all of player asset value it's still a relatively good framework for working out potential trades. Other baseball channels have been incorporating the site in their videos for a couple years now and this channel seems to be behind the times.

Bichette played only 81 games last year. So it was a throw away year for him. There's no scenario in which he "stinks" any more than any ballplayer in a similar situation. If you get hurt and you have half a season, your numbers are going to fall. I don't think Gavin Lutz and Bobby Miller would be nearly enough. I get that he only has one season of control left, but I think that idea of compensation is just Dodger homerism and wish thinking. Every time a trade possibility pops up, the first name out of everyone's mouth is Gavin Lutz. It's the same one track thinking as Yankee fans wanting to include Marcus Stroman in every deal. The problem is nobody really values those guys anywhere near what the fan bases believe their true value is.

As a jays fan....Bo has always been a guy leaving for the states...He is a floridian but most likely would sign with the Dodgers. Having said that 3 years in a row he was basically one of the best hitters in the league. I really dont think the Jays are letting him go for cheap. Trade Values are not gonna be considered. But i think a Lux and pitching prospect would get it done. IMO

Bo had a pretty bad season. The asking price shouldn't be too high. The Jays have both Bo and Vladdy coming up for free-agency next off-season and they can't afford to extend both of them.

I’m a Toronto fan, and I have zero interest in taking Gavin Lux for Bichette. I would rather trade for a decent RP plus prospects. I think it’s fair to value Bichette as a 3 WAR player in 2025, I get it there’s some uncertainty there. I really want to see Will Wagner playing 2B for the Jays this year.
