I love leather holsters, leather everything
But this is a legitimate concern when choosing an every day use holster
I wanted to share this as it may be something that you may not have considered but is definitely worth noting
Kydex doesn't have this problem and hybrid holsters have become very popular which is what I mainly use. This is a little unfortunate as I love the look and feel a worn leather holster but I don't think it's worth the potential risk

Guns always ride higher in leather holsters when the holster is new. If you give it a few days of letting it sit in the holster it would likely sit deeper even with the optic in place. It would be worth buying again if you like the holster and giving the leather some time to adapt.

@@ScotsmanInAmerica Follow up: I’ve been carrying this holster daily now for about 2 months. Honestly the gap is still present, but I don’t notice it. Hasn’t been an issue. The trigger is well in front of the gap and with the safety on and the gone concealed, it has been very comfortable and safe to carry. My only complaint is that the holster doesn’t hug tight to your hip like other pancake belt slide holsters I have. The gun also rides so high that it can be a little floppy at the top and print a little with snigger fitting shirts. I’m happy with it though.

I think you are overthinking this - in spades. I wear the same holster with the same weapon and this is not a problem yet. In the past I wore my service pistol, a Jericho 941, in a similar holster and no 'sagging' or 'flappiness' around the trigger guard was noticeable even after over a decade of daily use.

You need a better belt. A professional belt like a Nexbelt. No problems. If that doesn't work get a Bladetech holster. You are overthinking all this. Desantis is a fine holster and works well for me.

Tighten your belt. And if it’s not rigid get a better one. It will ride lower after a couple days. The holster is good to go. Just use a full kydex holster if you’re worried about it.

The holster gives you enough room to get a full grip BEFORE you draw. That is essential. They had to cut it a little low on the guard. You'd be hard pressed to get at the trigger when it's in the holster. I believe they made the right compromise.
