Lovely video! I have a pothos that has been growing in water for the last 9-10 years. They do wonderfully in water!

Suzanne here, yes they do very well in water, have many in water, i do have about 20 in soil and another 4 in terriaums and no idea how many in water, i prefer the solid colors myself, not a fan of the yellow and green ones, other than the enjoy, i stick to solids,

I have grown pathos Ivy in water for years and it grows very well! I generally give it a couple drops of miracle Grow house plant food each month during the growing season!! They are so easy! I Love to mix varieties in pots or water and they look so pretty!! They love miracle grow and it makes the leaves get so big!!!

I use pothos in my planted fish tank. It's great for aquariums and fish poop is great fertilizer for it. Also looks great in the aquarium. Just the roots are in the water. Leaves are above the water. Such a great plant. Great video by the way 🙂

I tried growing pothos marble queen in water, so I wouldn't have to worry about watering it, but it doesn't grow fast. I put them in soil. They seem to be happier in soil. I put one plant in a pot with a totem, but I never made a totem before, so I used surgical gauze, soaked/stained in red dirt, to wrap around the totem. Then I wrapped another gauze, trapping potting soil between the layers, and the pothos turned into a monster. Right after I wrapped the pothos onto the totem described, I left it under a tree in the back yard for about two weeks, and it was a huge monster with tendrils reaching everywhere.

Hi there I really enjoy your videos. FWIW: I am just writing to possibly explain that reader who asked about leaves being closer together. I think what he or she may have meant was if it gets long & leggy. I know my 20-year-old pothos that I had been neglecting a bit started to do that. There would only be leaves at the end of these long stems (or whatever they’re called). Well it needed light and some more nutrients & I finally gave it fresh soil and trimmed it up and now it’s bushy-ing out again.
@baileym73116 жыл бұрын
Yes. I have kept pothos in water for long periods of time they will do good especially if you use some water soluble fertilizer. I have rooted in water and dirt it’s always been a 50/50 chance. Although, I have some very mature clones of some of my favorite variegated ones. I live in Las Vegas, NV. Love the videos btw

Thank you for sharing this! Water has always worked for me but mix is good too. The roots on the stems make it easy. Nell

I love pothos! I’ve only ever grown it outdoors here in central Louisiana (zone 9a/8b). It climbs well up columns, but never takes over since every few years it freezes back to a manageable size. Mines In lower light under a live oak, and has lost some of its variegation. My uncle is big on aquariums, and he has grown pothos (not fully submerged) in water for years. He says as long as they get some type of nutrients and air, they will do fine in water
@JoyUsGarden6 жыл бұрын
Pothos are 1 of the most common plants but I love them too. Devil's Ivy is their common name (because they take over outdoors) but it sounds like it not an issue for you. Can't wait to see what varieties the growers come up with in the future. Nell

i dont let mine get too long, i am non stop making more plants, haha, i have about 50 pothos, plants, and from that i made more and more, i love the n'joy and the neon, and mine are water grown, most of them, keeps down on leaf browning and they simply grow much faster in water on a full time basis.
@anthonylewis625 жыл бұрын
yes i agree, they are so easy in water, i love the solid green ones, and the lime green ones, the others i really dont care for, i have the enjoy and i am not crazy about those, they get too big, so i took cuttings, and i keep that one in water, but the water needs to be NOT tap water, they hate tap water, so i always grow mine in big jars then,

I adore pothos. So easy to propogate, so attractive and hardy. However I'm obbessed with them down in Tasmania, Australia and they are not easy to find! We call them devils ivy almost exclusively and they are relatively expensive and pop up kind of once a year at nurserys!
@JoyUsGarden6 жыл бұрын
Hi Hannah - I love them too! Yes, I've seen them growing in the wild & they're a beast to control. Much better in our homes. Interesting that they're expensive because they're so cheap here. Nell

i have 10 right in the south window, and in summer blinds closed in winter, wide open, we also have a lot in low light because i wanted to keep them dark green i prefer those to the verigated ones

you can grow them for ever in water if you want too, as long as you change the water twice a week at least, i have them in lovely jars for years at a time, on book shelves where i dont have to mess with soil, much eaiser, but they do need the fresh water,

Thanks for the comprehensive information on the Pothos. This video is on my list for future reference. If anyone has advice, on my Pothos, there is one leaf the is trying to sprout a new leaf but it seems like the new leaf is partly stuck in the sheath, so the bottom is trying to grow out but the top is held so it looks deformed. Do you think I should cut the leaf so that it can grow though it will be deformed, so it can keep making new ones? If I leave it alone, can it cause problems with the stem forming new leaves? Please let me know if if it would help to post a picture on Twitter. Thank you.
@87FloJo6 жыл бұрын
Ilkhan28 It's a little hard to picture what you're trying to describe but Pothos are really tough plants so you can either leave it alone or cut it off. The plant will be okay either way.👍
@JoyUsGarden6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. There's lots of info in the post too. I've never done what you're describing but I agree with Florence. Pothos grow fast so I think you can carefully force it out. Nell

i have so so many of these things its unreal, cause i am addicted, any way, the giant in my bathroom, just goes and goes, its in a 6 inch pot, neon, and i love that baby, i love them cause, i can, leave them or sun them,and the neon, stay neon longer when they are in sun, but no direct, its so lovely i am also fond of the white, with little green, i have 3 of those, doing great, only time they do NOT do great, is if they are over watered, in water yes, but not over in soil i have the enjoy in my terrium, slow growing

the only issue i ever have with mine in soil is leaf yellowing and why i have no idea, they do that, this year is the first time i have had this problem with them, so i yanked up a few and put them back in water, that stopped that issue, but i would like to have more of mine in soil, but, i find they do that yellowing thing when i do, once they been in the same pot for a long time, i notice they do that often, and its annoying as heck

Hi Nell, I really enjoy your videos. I have a query about how to plant a clipping that has lots of roots. Not that they have rooted in water, but a friend gave me a clump of Pothos that she pulled out of a humongous plants and the cuttings/ pulling had long roots. So do Input these long roots in water or directly into soil? Thanks in advance Nell.
@missychan635 жыл бұрын
Since it came from dirt and you already have what sounds like good "dirt roots", I would put it directly back into dirt.
@TheValena5555 жыл бұрын
Thanks missyChan, I did go ahead and clumped those together and in a pot of my fav soil mixture. I bet I will take root soon.

@athenakeesee95486 жыл бұрын
I would recommend using houseplant fertilizer (Miracle Gro sticks are cheap and easy!) and maybe taking a couple of cuttings and re-rooting them in the pot to encourage new grow on the mama plant and new plants. You may also want to switch to filtered or distilled water if you haven't already.
@ceciliasalvacion84005 жыл бұрын
