When Chillwell is fully fit and he can integrate Ziyech and Pulisic into the team, we'll play a 4231/433 with two wingers with one staying wide with the fullback while the other fullback forms a back 3. They'll interchange depending on the side of the ball. When Sterling/Pulisic stay out, Chillwell or Cucurela will form a back 3, James will push up for Pulisic/Ziyech to overload the box, when Ziyech stays outwide, James forms a back 3 with Chillwell pushing high while Sterling overload the box. Kova should also be tried as a CDM next to RLC and Gallergher or Kante and Mount in a midfield 3. Broja/Auba Chillwell - CP/Sterling - HZ/Sterling RLC/MOUNT - NK/Gallergher Kova/Za Koulibaly - Fofana - James. Fullbacks and wingers interchange. The problem is James have no backup so one of the wingers will play out wide more with Azpi or Fofana at RCB and Kai as 10.

To consider Kepa as a ball-playing keeper is just laughable. We are quick to forget the mistakes he makes. The other day he gave a bad pass to Jorginho, yet again (2 calamities waiting to happen). He will drop that kind of clanger at least once every game. Clearly not Chelsea level. Mendy has been out of form but to replace him with Kepa would be a huge mistake. I wasn't impressed with Potter's selection or subs although it was his first game but I don't see what will be done differently except experimental tactics. We needed someone with a clear plan who absolutely knows what he's doing. To me, it's not Potter, but I'd love to be proven wrong

This is so much better than before. With TT, they keep overloading the flanks with 2-3 players rotating passes to no results as nobody wants to take on players. Now with more spacing, they can try to take on players and players running will drag more defenders out of positions. Most important is they need to pass faster to match with these movements. Once everything clicks, it will be very similar to the way Brighton attacks and surprises teams.

Sterling had a really good game. I was getting a bit frustrated when he would hold the ball up instead of playing the ball to the person making the run, but he would end up finding a really good pass to Auba or Havertz. Once these players adapt to Potters style of play, we are really gonna start cooking!

I was at the game and I'd give Potter a 7 for what he was trying to do. We created far more chances and on another day could have been 3 or 4 up. One thing which you didn't really touch on was his substitutions which were in my opinion poor. Chelsea were very lucky that Salzburg went to a low block to see our the draw. Ziyech very wasteful again. His final product being exceptionally poor. As for Pulisic - you can see he doesn't want to be at the club. Again awful. As soon as the ball reaches him any advance stops, he's scared of taking anyone on. I don't know if that's because he's been injured or what, but surely Potter and the playing staff have seen this in the previous game (Dinamo) and training? Broja was a good addition and I think him with Havertz could be an interesting link up.

@@josephkyalo9042 history says that’s VERY improbable, I’ve watched number of videos about the topic, read some scout articles, goalies comfort with the ball at his feet, and players in general actually are learned during their formative, academy years, usually under 18 and down, by the time they reach level over 18, that particular skill is what it is, yes, you can make small and incremental improvements, but I don’t think I have even seen an improvement from David de Gea level to Kasper Schmeichel level once player is over 18-20 age bracket, don’t know enough about Gaga Slonina to give an opinion, but if Chelsea want Ter Stegen, Neuer, Allison, Ederson goalie quality with his feet, going out and buying one is the only option. If you notice, all 4 were bought from other clubs, not home home grown

Football is simple, the front line (cdm) is first line of defence, if they breach your front line your backline is 10-15 meters behind to sweep up/pick up loose balls/close down a hurrying attacker. That's standard football, basic 101, two layers of defence, in front of the keeper. Chelsea try to copy Conte's formation but Conte had Kante in front of his three center backs. Conte was super defensive, he had three layers of defence, as David Luis would constantly step up into cdm during the attacking faze, while Kante played destroyer from CM. Being solid through the center, allowed him to play more attacking wingbacks. Conte ball created less chances but he had a peak Hazard and clinical Striker. Chelsea now play the same Conte formation with out a CDM, instead of Silva stepping up to cdm he plays furthest one back. In the defensive faze the center backs hold a single flat line, without a CDM, that's one single layer of defence, that's one mistake/one press/one shot/one dribble away from your defence being breached every time and a xg conceded. With a average keeper, no hazard or a costa Chelsea are pretty fucked, that's why Poch and Formation change was needed, not another fake Conte. Man United no CDM were fucked up until Casemiro came Liverpool no cdm this season fucked Man City no cdm in the UCL final pep-ed

It has always been like this. Its interesting how people forget so often we always create chances but can't finish. This was no better performance against Dynamo. If not for the brilliance of Sterling, It would have ended 0:1. I don't see potter performing any miracle in the future. The forwards need serious motivation.

To me, Sterling played a wing-back role and that back three had one natural CB in Thiago, Cucu, and Azpi are not CB that is a fact. Pep can not play Cancelo or Walker or any of his fullbacks in CB positions. Potter should play players in their preferred roles and they can transition to attacking positions upfront and then maintain their defensive shape when pressed. I don't understand, is it too hard? The goal scored by Salzburg had Chelsea defending with just two players Thiago and Azpi with Reece and Cucu all upfront. Damn!!

I think sacking Tuchel was ridiculous, and I think this game proved it. There's very little that shows "promise", if anything there seems to be a lot of tactical indecision. To me it seems Potter had some ideas for Brighton that he knew wouldn't work there, but he can try to test all of them at once at Chelsea. If he's going to use this approach going forward I feel like City and healthy Liverpool will rip them to shreds, especially if he insists on the 4-4-3 with the keeper pushed high. Chelsea's group is a pretty tough one and experimenting with all sorts of things only to get a lucky goal to save them from a straight loss could be disastrous for the rest of the season. Potter needs to decide on a style of play (that progresses the club) if he wants to be there more than a season. But Tuchel was able to find a style that held Liverpool to 4 draws last year and I don't think Potter has it in him with whatever he tried to do here. As for goal output which was the only thing that you could really ding Tuchel for, I'm not sure there will be enough improvement in that area to justify making this switch at this point in the season.

While Sterling impressed wide, he actually hindered an access to goal that Chelsea have relied hugely on for goals. Check the data, one of the most successful periods for goals scored and you’ll find that that Chilwell and Alonso scored eight goals last season. Chilwell is a must he’s already scored two goals this season. We lacked any penetration through the centre and on the right Reece James was a constant threat. Broja needs to be given a starting place, just to see how he gels. Definitely an improvement.

It's unbelievable that they let one of the best coaches like Tuchel go. Tuchel is just much worse at coaching when he also has to take on the tasks of a sports director. The next club must take this work from him then he is again one of the best coaches in the world. I am curious who will get him now. I think Bayern are just looking for a reason to dismiss Nagelsmann after three draws. The victory against Barcelona has saved him the job Not that Nagelsmann is not a world-class coach. But if Tuchel is on the market, you have to sign him. I also don't know why these club leaders always take themselves so important. They obviously don't understand at Chelsea and Dortmund that Tuchel was never about power but only about maximum success with his job as a coach with the team.
