Pottery At Home ~ experimenting with stain, fired pieces reveal, hand-building and throwing🌸

I got everything back from being fired! All items are revealed (and my opinion on them). I experimented with stains, tried a marble affect and Nerikomi technique for the first time. I will do a full video of the process once I get everything back from being fired (if it was successful). I also glazed, finished recycling clay, hand-built a mug using the slab method and threw on the wheel.

Hi Wendy! I wouldn't be discouraged just yet...ask your community studio if you can have the pieces you are not happy with re-fired. It looks like the kiln didn't fire hot enough. Another fire may smooth everything out and make your pieces look more like the photo. It's worth it, trust me. I have had many pieces re-fired...some work, some don't. Same applies with pinholing...sometimes a re-fire will help smooth those out too. I love your vases and I know how much work you put into them...and I want you to be happy with them. Thank you so much for your vlogs...I really love watching them.

@@KlayCeramics Hi again! Same temperature. I would also find out what temperature the kiln fires at the community studio, it'll help you out a lot. Another thing I have found is even though a glaze says it's a cone 5/6 glaze, it likes higher temps like 7 and 8. Not sure if you do this already, but I have found it very helpful to watch kiln unloadings here on KZbin. I have learned so much about glazes and glazing, and it's also fun to see all the different glaze colours too, without having to buy. Jessica Putnam Phillips has a few ... she fires to cone 5 ... and Life in South Simcoe County has like 50+ kiln unloadings you can watch...she fires to cone 6 or 7. Have fun and good luck, I truly hope the re-fires go well.
