any tips on how to make the scallops even?! find this difficult

I suggest using a seamstress measuring tape to wrap around the bowl and mark out equal sections. For the arch of each scallop you can cut out a template from paper to trace along the bowls edge. Hope this helps!

Yes you can - as long as it is made with a food-safe clay, fired to the correct temperature, and a food-safe glaze is used

That was so cool. I have some questions as a complete beginner - is there any specific clay and paint to use that is safe for consumption i.e. won't leech off any chemicals? Where do you buy these materials? How much water do you use knead and mold the clay? How long does it take to leather dry? How would you wash the cups after use? Thank you ! 🙏😃
@KlayCeramics
@KlayCeramics 6 күн бұрын
I suggest using stoneware clay. Use a food-safe glaze (it will indicate on the product if it is food safe), anywhere where the food/drink will be needs to be glazed so that there's a barrier between the food and the clay. You can buy these from a pottery supply store - for example, Clay King. They are an online pottery store based in USA - you can use my discount codes: Wendy5 for $5 off orders over $50 and Wendy10 for $10 off orders over $100. You do not need to add water with the clay unless the clay is slightly too dry to work with - if so then add a small amount at a time. The drying time depends on the climate that you are in - the drying rate in hot and dry areas are much quicker than in humid and wet areas. The exact estimated drying time until it's leather hard will differ throughout the year and in different areas. Once your pieces have been properly fired they can be handwashed or washed in the dishwasher - just note that the dishwasher is more harsh and so I would suggest handwashing for a longer lifespan of your piece. I hope this helps!

Heybro!!! Can u please tell us what the tools and product are required ,if i am beginning with this pottery ,,,i saw lots of videos but still everything is blur that what the actual process to start this work🥹
@KlayCeramics
@KlayCeramics 25 күн бұрын
Hi! You don’t need much to start - you can just start with some clay and use some house hold objects to help as tools (such as a fork, spoon, knife, toothpick etc.). If you are using air dry clay make sure to use a food safe one for things like mugs and bowls etc. (And make sure to use a food safe sealant as well!). If you are using normal clay (such as stoneware or earthenware) it will need to be fired in a kiln - try find a firing service near you. Hope this helps! Here’s a full video explaining the whole process: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJzNf5WKeKuMZ7Msi=CjnmWCLWUoy9e9S4

Good for you, to learn the craft this way! As an aside, some archaeologists believe the wheel was "invented" by ancient potters, to facilitate pot-throwing. Looking at videos of traditional potters in central Africa--a flat rock placed atop a roundish stone--one can see how this is very probable.

No unfortunately not, this type of clay needs to be fired to temperatures of 1100-1200 degrees Celsius to fully strengthen which an oven can’t do 😊

@KlayCeramics
@KlayCeramics Ай бұрын
Yes you can, as long as you’re using food safe glaze and there’s no crazing or cracks in the glaze once fired. I suggest using a stoneware clay with a food safe stoneware glaze (the glaze should indicate whether it’s harmful or safe) and then fired to the correct stoneware temperature (the glaze should also indicate the temperature or cone it must fire to). Hope this helps!

Thank you! Hope you enjoy making it! This is white stoneware so it will turn white in the kiln. I haven’t personally come across a clay that will fire to this color but where you buy your clay they should have a color guide to show what the fired clay looks like. Hope this helps!
