Fabulous. You are the answer I have been seeking for at least 4 separate projects! Just put my second order in for your molds. I’m making either heart oil diffusers or jingle bells for my sons Dec wedding favors. Really excited. What was the glaze you used for the bells,if you don’t mind sharing. They look so real!!! Thanks again on so many levels….

That looked like one of the Amaco glazes. Possibly Saturation Gold or Vintage Gold, Palladium would also look nice. Just be aware that the metallic glazes require more coats to get a nice finish than the other glazes (5-6 coats is what I typically do).

Try using the tool with your non-dominant hand. Might help with the unevenness. Merry Christmas!

Where did you get the kanthal wire and rods? Size (diameter)on the rods so they do not bend in the firing? Great video! Second time I watched, easy to follow!
@moltenmudstudio6927 Жыл бұрын
I got them from New Mexico Clay, www.nmclay.com. I believe my horizontal rods are 9 gauge and the wire I used to hang for glazing was 14 gauge.

Hi. Do you have to use tissue paper to wrap the little ball? What happens to the tissue paper? What happens if you don’t? Thank you. Love the video and ordered some of the molds 😊

You can pick it out with tweezers, or if you fire them just let it burn away. I actually don't wrap them anymore. 😊

@@marimaxwell3441 the tissue burns off in the kiln with no issues that I’ve found. Recently I’ve started using the clay scraps I create while I’m making them and roll up a whole BUNCH of balls for the ringer. I let them sit out and get bone dry then put them in a ziplock bag for when I’m making the next set. The bone dry clay seems to not stick inside the bell and allows me to skip the tissue paper step. 😃

I always roll my noise makers in corn starch before putting them in my rain sticks. That would work here as well 😊

When I make the first half of the bell and remove it from the press I go ahead and set the little ball wrapped in tissue paper inside before I make the second half of the bell. I found out the hard way that I tend to forget to put the ringer inside if I don’t!

I make mine by slip casting. I had to make my own molds, but that was easy enough. And I also make sleigh bells, just a single slot. Right now I use low fire clay but I think I'd get better sound with porcelain, and that's a step up. 😊

@@lamardon9723 I’d love to see your bells! I’ve tried searching for others but never find any. And I’d also love to get into slip casting. Someone gave me a TON of Alaskan themed molds from the 70’s/80’s. Most are kind of not my thing but I’m tempted to give them a try anyway!

I am trying to fire these for my students. I bought the kanthal wire and the rods like you suggested but am still unsure of how to set it up in the kiln once they are glazed. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!!

Thanks! How do you add the hanger at the end?
@moltenmudstudio6927 Жыл бұрын
I take the two ends of twine and push them both into the bell through the top hole. I push enough string through so I can fish around with a needle tool and pull them both out a side hole. (Probably be super easy to grab both strings with a little wire bent into a hook or a small crochet hook) Then I tie a knot, trim off the excess and grab the loop on the outside of the bell and pull until the knot is back on the inside. Or you can make a hanging loop out of kanthal wire Or…like on my small bells I used a loop of kanthal wire when I was making them so I had something to hang them from.

could you pour wax on the inside?
@moltenmudstudio6927 Жыл бұрын
You could🤷🏼♀️I didn’t have too much of an issue with anything sticking. Out of the 35 or so I made I think only four stuck. And at that I was able to tap the ball on the inside with a needle tool and the ball popped loose.
@asta-sakhidasi6980 Жыл бұрын
Is that just a clay ball that you are adding?
@elkebockamp8893 Жыл бұрын
I can say it is, i 've tried some on my own and it works with the little clay ball inside.
@moltenmudstudio6927 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I wrapped it in tissue so it wouldn’t stick to the interior. I did have a couple stick after firing. I think they got a tiny bit of glaze on them. I just gave them a tap with a needle tool and they broke loose.
