It 's the greatest pleasure to see the orchestra enjoying it every bit as much as the pianists and the audience! It's performances like this that transport the definition of 'classical' music in to new territory for a wider audience. Nothing elitist or precious about it, just plain fun. Love it. Bravo all concerned. Double Bravo!

Poulenc, about to compose his "Concerto for two pianos": "F*ck the rules! I'll show them how sassy and saucy classical music can be! I'll take the most unsophisticated, corniest tunes and dip them in spicy orchestral sauce, and they will lick their fingers and smear not one, but TWO keyboards, with the spectacularly yummy result!" And god, aren't these two naughty boys and their orchestra gang sharing the feast 😋

Oh please. None of the themes are corny and mundane. And your comment is vulgar. The piece is glorious from start to finish. Why are they "two naughty boys?" And ALL great composers are unique and original. And by Poulenc's time, there were no "rules." What do you mean by "classical music?" The classical period? There was just MUSIC to the great composers. That was it for them. And all the harmonic and structural elements of all the greats before him remain intact. He simply pushed things in a different direction, like Stravinsky, Bartok, Debussy, Ravel and Prokofiev. Debussy especially paving the way for Ravel and then Poulenc.

To sum up: There is not a Swiss watch manufactured which surpasses the precision of this pianism. I don't even like to call the Jussens "duo pianists", as their synchronization is absolute, unerring, and becomes "as one". Technique, here, becomes a trivial topic, so why delve into the obvious and paste accolades upon accolades? The paucity of pedal, bringing to bear the utter clarity of the voicing and phrasing ... the subjective elements, the feeling the interpretation ... this encompassing result forces me to restate what I had said in the beginning: A Swiss watch is no better made, but that mechanism does lack the passion which Jussen possesses. - David Lyga

I find it interesting that they both are equally talented both in technical abilities and musicality so I am assuming that their parents were musicians that encouraged them at a young age. As a pianist myself I can only image what is was like for the two brothers to come home from school and argue over who gets to practice on the piano first! Bravo to their parents and to their teachers!
