Kazuya is by far the most polarizing and punishing character in Smash. He can kill you in 3 interactions. Playing against a Kazuya, you need a lot of matchup experience and a solid game plan, and not so many characters can deal with him. Its gonna be interesting seeing top players deal with the DEMON.

When are commentators going to figure out that Riddles picks his character more so by the stage that picked. As someone who really enjoys Kazuya, platforms really screw up his punish potential. Riddles will almost always pick Kazuya when FD and Kalos is chosen, and Town and City will also commonly be for Kazuya. The rest is Terry. There are also probably a few characters that Kazuya just won't go against, such as Pikachu.

Neutral is fine, because you have a move that is quicker than game and watch upsmash, is invincible on startup and beats any falling or short hop aerial, and which kills at 0 and any percent above that. Leo couldn't win a bo5 from Riddles Kazuya while playing "fundamentals" the character (Marth), if Kazuya had bad neutral and struggled against players with good neutral that would have been impossible. Mr.E also lost a Kazuya while being a seasoned veteran. And funnily enough when a top player like ESAM picked the character up he destroyed Riddles with him. Kazuya is a gamble and execution character, a complete gimmick. It's high variance BS, the entire game is just him banking on guessing right once to take the stock. You can even see Leo shake his head after one of the games against Riddles (one he won), Zomba too.

​​@@shaghilathar3588 Couldn't agree more, Luigi only really has two percentages (~0 and ~60) at which he can straight up kill you off a throw while Kazuya can kill off an EWGF (or easy set up moves like N-air, grab or up-tilt) at any percent. Luigi's touch of death can also be SDI'd which is why we don't see Elegant go for it in top level matches, while Kazuya's has no counterplay if executed properly (blue arrow is reactable, way too much hitstun) Oh yeah, one more thing. Luigi's grab is 50 f frames (Fox down-smash) and EWGF is 35f, that is2 frames FASTER than G&W upsmash which is considered not whiff punshable on top level

Not only does it require much more execution than Luigi and the fact it's way easier to SDI EWGF but EWGF is a close range move than can be blocked while Luigi has a tether grab. Also I have no idea where you're getting your frame data sources but that's completely wrong. Even if it was right 35 frames is like half a second. Human reaction time is a quarter on average so you just played yourself. Kazuya has some of the worst mobility in the game while Luigi has some of the best. Kazuya has way more weaknesses than Luigi. At this point you're either coping or in denial

The main reason Doc can’t win a Major is because he gets downloaded easily and he has a bad recovery. It’s impossible to play perfectly every game. There will be times of human error. Even if you play like BacoN here, you’ll encounter a player that can adapt in one game. You’ll get counter picked, camped, and abused offstage. Nevertheless, Doc is hype. More power to low tier mains. You stand out, and you bring a show when you perform excellently.

There aren't that many low tiers (roughly 1/8 of the game roster which is insane) but there are some who you just can't win with if your opponent knows how to handle your terrible weaknesses. You need to be lucky that your opponent either has a bad day or doesn't download the match up but if not then it's already over

Ness vs Terry is rough for Terry but it's doable for Terry especially if he gets in. Kazuya vs Ness is heavily ness favored. So riddles didn't switch. Same thing applies vs Icymist. However against Bacon win or lose he switched because both characters do pretty well against doc.

I'm relatively certain that Riddles picks his characters not because of the character MU, but because of the stage that's chosen. He did go all Riddles vs Gackt, but that's because they struck to PS2, and Gackt counterpicked him to Small Battlefield. Those platforms greatly diminish Kazuya's potential punish game. Go through all of Riddles sets. If Kalos/FD/(and most of the time) Town and City is chosen. He will go Kazuya, those are the stages he can maximize his punish with Kazuya. With that said, there are characters that Kazuya probably won't be chosen for, but that is usually light + small characters, like Pikachu.

It's not domination, it's just an unhealthy punish game executed properly but there's little to nothing Doc could have done about it. Being completely robbed, Bacon tilted which unfortunately affected the rest of the set

For starters, most throws don't even have enough hitstun for a true follow up, and most throws that allow for more usually only allow a two-piece and in no way set up a 50/50 scenario in which they get a kill if they choose right. Now let's see what Kazuya's got. Kazuya's downthrow EWGF is true. In the scenario that comes afterwards Kazuya can react to the blue arrow, if people don't know about how DI works on EWGF specifically the follow up is guaranteed. If they do it becomes a 50/50 at worst, DI in or DI out, but if the Kazuya reacts properly he can react to the DI change at the last second. You see, you can dash forward, then back jump and still catch DI in (watch the video), this means you can always buffer the dash forward and you have the launch time + the entire forward dash to react to the blue arrow. In that case it's not even a 50/50 or a read at all. But for arguments sake, let's agree that it is a 50/50. There is no character that has similar 50/50 out of throw or anything else for that matter that can lead to this much damage or a straight kill. "Literally anyone can zero to death off a throw if they read the opponent" Reading the opponent after a throw for normal characters involves choosing between roughly 8 different options, with some of them not allowing a direct punish like jump away or jump in and leaving more options open after that, requiring more reads. Kazuya doesn't have to worry about any of that, it's a much more simple situation with only two options (true 50/50), unlike regular throw situations where the opponent has 8+ options with more scenarios and different options branching from those options. And honestly I could have just left it at this, give me one example of a throw situation outside of Kazuya, Luigi and IC's, where you can get a kill off of at best two 50/50 reads at zero, I'll be waiting

So in the case of match 2 BacoN chose his bans (don't know what they were, but he didn't pick FD). Riddles says, okay, I choose to go to Final Destination. BacoN says, okay, I pick Doc Mario. Riddles says okay, I pick Kazuya. Then BacoN goes shit!

Bacon gets punished for *hitting* an upsmash which leads to him immediately getting killed at 0%, which completely reversed the momentum… thats rough Bacon did super well with Doc of all character, being in Riddles head several times but after that shift it was Riddles game
