They reused this idea in a way in the 2010s remake. Only instead of a bird, it was a squirrel who fell into a basket of puppies and was raised alongside them by the pups' mother. It ended up working out though, the technician of the crew warmed up to the squirrel and adopted him even after he realized that he's really a squirrel and accepted it. It's one of my favorite episodes. 😊

Sheesh, I know Katrina and Brattina are supposed to be the jerks of the show but after watching Whopper Gets the Point, I didn't think they were messed up in the head, expecting the shots to hurt the pups and then being disappointed that it won't as much. I haven't seen every single episode of Pound Puppies *sighs* another series that hasn't been released on DVD

If you recall the first season, Holly Connor's dog-hating auntie (and unfortunately, Holly's vindictive legal guardian too, since Holly's only just a child herself, but she legally inherited the Spidey Sense-like Puppy Power gift from Katrina's deceased elderly sister, who was Cooler's original owner & porpretior of the Puppy Pound in its original incarnation) Katrina Stoneheart & her spoiled rotten daughter Brattina wanted to close down Holly's Puppy Pound (in reality, a temporary shelter for stray pets -- despite the namesake, it's not just dogs allowed in, since a holiday episode had Cooler let a stray cat to be included in the end, too -- but the focus remains mostly on puppies, because the show was purposely made to coincide with the American Greeting/Hasbro toyline of plush dogs with legitimate adoption certificates of authenticity for each plush puppy owner) & turn our anthropomorphic furry title characters into fur coats with the aid of dog-skinning brute Captain Slaughter! In season 2, all thanks to Executive Meddling from network censors (and also, possibly concerned animal rights activists with caring mindsets similar to Holly's [as in, they were perhaps worried for the animated puppies' welfare due to the increased level of danger raised in season 1's later episodes after Captain Slaughter's debut in episode 8 "The Captain & the Cats"]), the show was drastically toned down. Due to the toned-down nature of the show itself, some of the characters were given updates to their standard designs (namely, mixed breed Cooler [specifically, he cites a pointer & a grayhound as two of the breeds he carries traits from in a prior season 1 episode] and southern belle pooch Nose Marie were redrawn noticeably thinner and so, were therefore, seen as actively cuter than their preceding season 1 semi-realistic yet toyetic art style, but still mostly retained the key identifiable aspects of their original looks, whereas resident inventor Howler & imaginative runt of the litter Whooper largely stayed the same across both seasons), however Nancy Cartright's sqeaky-voiced redhead cocker spaniel Bright Eyes was given an entire character makeover that makes her season 2 design appear completely different from her season 1 design (this is visibly shown when you have the _All-New Pound Puppies_ intro introducing the season 2 character design updates for the titular Pound Puppies with new lyrics [including the Pound Puppies' roll call] for the slightly tweaked theme song, but the episode title cards still showcased the Pound Puppies' looks from season 1). In fact, even the lone kind human child caretaker of the Pound Puppies, Holly Connor, had herself done up so that she was now considerably slimmer & taller than she had been in season 1, as if to suggest that she actually aged in real-time, yet her greedy guardian Katrina Stoneheart & the latter's spoiled rotten daughter Brattina stayed the same from season 1 on into season 2. A casualty of the toned-down nature of the show was the removal of Captain Slaughter & the whole "turning kidnapped puppies into fur coats" threat, so in season 2, villains Katrina Stoneheart & her spoiled rotten daughter Brattina only wanted to keep the Pound Puppies (still under Holly's care, of course, even if her bequeathed ownership of the Puppy Pound was taken from her because she's still a child herself too, so she won't get her rights to the Puppy Pound back until she were to ever become of legal age to take it back from her greedy guardian & if a franchise reboot featuring the OG _Pound Puppies_ is ever made) from giving their fellow homeless canines happy ever-after homes by keeping them in cages by basically attempting to transform the Puppy Pound under their new management from the caring temporary shelter for homeless puppies (and the occasional stray cat) that it's intended to be into something resembling a state or federal prison or what people wholly against animal shelters/pounds/zoos percieve all such places to be (namely, crammed cages that are too small found in questionable places run by obviously shady people who don't really devout their time to actually caring for the animals they're supposed to take care of).

Best reason I can come up with is that someone realized an 11-year-old girl running a business was highly illegal. I'm willing to bet that Katrina only has ownership of the pound of Holly turns 18.

Maybe it was the government, the Republicans were not agreed that a kid managed a pound, and gave control to her aunt XD, but now really , the concept of an evil person manages the pound gives much material to writers to take advantage that would not happen if a good person handled it like in the first season

@@BobbyDrake2000 Except Katrina's deceased sister who was Cooler's original owner, host of the mystical Puppy Power ability (which was later transferred onto Holly & any child who loves puppies), and initial proprietor of the Puppy Pound bequeathed the Puppy Pound and its residents (the titular Pound Puppies) to Holly when her will was read in the series' pilot episode in season 1, because the dying elderly woman already knew her greedy sister Katrina (and the latter's spoiled rotten daughter Brattina) hated the dogs & wanted them dead (hence why Holly's wicked aunt & bratty cousin twosome conscripted dog-skinning brute Captain Slaughter in the later episodes of season 1, with the full intent of kidnapping the titular puppies whilst underage caretaker Holly was asleep/distracted with other responsibilities/out-of-earshot/not around, sending them to the fur factory [the delapidated former puppy paradise Wagga Wagga from episode #10's flashback tragically turned into an abandoned ghost town, with the eerie exception of an unsettling factory on the grounds devised to make lavish fur coats out of genuine animal fur], and tragically skinning them into fur coats, although thankfully, "no animals were actually harmed in the making of this cartoon").
