Pouring a Concrete Slab | Summer Week at the Cabin

A massive thank you to our friends Ryan, Von, Jake, JR & Amber! We are tremendously grateful for all their help and excited to show you what it took to make the Quonset hut shop pad happen!
With the concrete poured it's finally time to begin erecting the shop.
~ 9 Seed Cracker Recipe ~
Ingredients
1/2 cup all purpose white flour
1/3 cup flaxseed meal
2 tbs nutritional yeast flakes
1 heaping tbs each: brown flax seed, golden flax seed, raw shelled sunflower seed, hulled white sesame seed, black sesame seed, raw shelled pumpkin seed, chia seed, hemp seed, poppy seed
7 cloves garlic, diced
Spices as desired: smoked paprika, cumin, cayenne pepper, herb mixture (oregano, thyme, rosemary, sage).
1/3 cup water (can vary)
1/3 cup sourdough starter
2 tbs olive oil
Instructions
1. Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl.
2. Add in and mix garlic, sourdough starter, oil and water (start with a small amount and continue to add as needed).
* Dough will be slightly sticky
3. Roll out dough between two pieces of parchment paper by hand or with roller until thickness desired.
4. Place dough with only bottom sheet of parchment paper on a baking sheet, bake for 320° F for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy!

Does anyone else hate when the videos end, and you know we have to wait an entire week for another one? I love the cooking segments! You're lucky to have friends willing to help out, with such a big project! Did you send them home with canned treats? I hope people realize not everyone could do what they are doing. They almost make it look easy. But without Eric's knowledge, and ability to fix so many things, and without Arielle's willingness to do hard work, and knowledge on foraging, bees, gardening and canning; and their ability to work together, they would not accomplish what they have, and would have likely given up by now. Eric remember this very important part when it comes to putting up the building, I telling you because we put one up and know this . Do not tighten the bolts all the way down, until it’s completely assembled. If you do you will have to go back and loosen everyone of them. It’s going to be hard because your going to be scared of it falling but DO NOT TIGHTEN BOLTS ALL THE WAY. I wish we could come help you with it but we won’t be up that was until September n it will be on a cruise so won’t have the time to come help y’all. Ours was 36x 40 and we got lucky enough to have professionals do our concrete work. Y’all did a great job!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😍😍😍😍

@@deemartinez836French press allows you to not take in the bitters of coffee. Plus you can add perfectly tempered water (just a bit under boiling) and have coffee far surpassing any other vessel imo

I hang my laundry out on a line, you can’t beat it. Beats drying indoors or in a dryer. Only during the summer months. I use pins ( pegs ) so the wind doesn’t blow my laundry away. Super cute 🐥 chicks. Did you see the one with furry legs. Your concrete slab looks good. I wonder if doing it in two separate halves would have been easier. It’s done now. So not to worry ! I love your channel and I have to say your wringer washer took me back to my childhood in the 50's and 60's. My Dad and Mom had seven kids and it seemed that she was always doing wash. She had an old washer with the wringer on top and as us older kids got a little older Mom taught us how to use that wringer to help her with the laundry. My Dad was a plumber and pipe fitter so he had two clothesline posts made of two inch black iron pipes and Mom had 4 clotheslines, each about 30 ft. long. I've watched quite a few of your video's lately and love how the two of you interact. Again, love your very professionally done video's.

Growing up until i was a teenager i helped my mother with the wash,we had a maytag wringer washer. So did quite a few loads! There were seven children. Then the three older ones married so their mates then too ! Then of course babies started coming along!! We had two big square tubs beside it,one with rinse water,one with water with bluing added to it. The blue water made white clothes look brighter,whiter. Then we had to have one with starch water in it to run jeans,shirts and blouses in so we could iron them. Of course we hung clothes on the clothesline. Talking about fish eggs,my grandpa loved fish eggs! And he liked squirrel, and loved the head with the brains!! Either fried or boiled! They lived in the country in Arkansas.

I grew up using a ringer and continued using one after I married, I quit using one in 1997. We had a double rinse tub, they are hard to find, and if you do find one they was a ridiculous amount for it. Be careful with buttons and zippers the ringer will break them. I always fold the material with the buttons and zipper on the inside laying flat. You don't want them sideways. I love using the ringer, your clothes get clean, and I love the smell of fresh hung clothes. I love watching you guys and enjoy the scenery too.

One simple piece of advice from someone who works in construction. Anything you use when working concrete first paint it with diesel, one because it works and 2nd it's cheap. The cement will not adhere to the diesel. We use it on rubber boots, wood to be re-used for shutters and all equipment that touches the cement. Basically everything you want clean afterward or for the cement not to stick and helps stop rust. Then when you're done, high pressure washer takes it all off with no hassle. Boots you spray with degreaser to get the diesel off and they're good as new. Diesel is kryptonite to cement. Love the work dynamic between you two BTW. Dive into any project head first. Learned a lot from you about canning and preservation. This is my way of giving back.

@Arielle my friend, my Mum passed in 2000 and we had still not converted her from using her old agitator/wringer washing machine !!!! LOL I remember her 1st one when i was 10 yrs old and she washed for a household of 9 on the consecutive dairy farms they had til my Dad passed at 85 & Mother followed 7yrs kater at 77yrs, still using her trusty old agigtor/wringer washer, with the twin tub, sitting in the corner of her laundry looking all forlorn and lonely LOL Ours was in NZ but I'm sure the quality & durability is just as excellent worldwide, & you'll get years of quality use out of it, esp with Erics running repairs. As for your concrete pour .... yet again you smashed it out of the park (!!!!!!! ) along with the friends you were able to rope in to help with such a massive project !!!! You always prepare so diligently abd are so deeply focussed on all aspects of the project. Thorough preparation is a huge part of a successful process & outcome !!!!!! Wow, I haven't seen a wringer washer since I lived off grid in Central Oregon 36 years ago! They do great laundry and very easy to fix. I did diapers and all with that machine.

Water is a perfect cure for your slab. The longer you can retain the relative humidity with in the slab...The higher the Psi. Dam concrete never stops curing as long there is moisture is present. Good job guys.

I grew up with my mom using a ringer washer. She ran the clothes into a rinsing tub, moved the ringer, and did a second rinse into another tub with fabric softener in it. Ran them through the ringer again into the basket for hanging on the line. Hot cottons first…towels and sheets…then on to more delicate clothes as the water cooled. We weren’t allowed to use the ringer until we had good motor skills and could watch our little fingers! Good memories 😊

Nice job on the slab. You are blessed with true friends, quite a testament to how highly regarded the two of you are. I have an engineering degree and an international contractors license (make mention of this as a qualifier, nothing more, degrees pale in comparison to real world experience), no stranger to the pressure of a concrete pour. Much like my 30+ years as a fly-for-hire pilot (I have more jobs than a Jamacin and still trying to sort out what I am going to be whenever I grow up); moments of terror surrounded by hours of boredom, you had no cold joints, verified the PEX integrity, etc., all the right moves my friend. No worries regarding inevitable high spots, rent a grinder and all will be well. Worst case, you can do a concrete self-leveling pour, but not necessary in my opinion. And what a kick ass wife you have, I mean damn, where do you find women like that. She is lockstep with you. Please do not misinterpret the last statement, I am old (64) and I am simply so impressed by the work ethic both of you possess. Godspeed moving forward, wish I could be there to assist, I mean that most sincerely.

I would harvest all that " dirty " water and put it over my compost or where the ground needs the most , drip line to fruit trees , side dressing to veggies...i would not let it go down the drain. Also , use it for the foundation of a fertilizer tea! oh yeahhhh , jealously watching!
