You guys simply do not know what you are talking about. Brazil has officially the seventh or eighth economy of the world measured by GDP. The real Brazilian GDP is far bigger than the "official" GDP because since 1986 Brazil has been governed by left-wing parties (dammit, 38 long years!!!!) and those "socialists" have created a tax law in Brazil which is unbelievably complex (typical and standard behavior of the left) and the result of that is that there is a huge amount of tax avoidance (informal economy). But it is extremely complex to calculate exactly the amount of such "informal economy" because for obvious reasons, the companies and individuals which avoid paying taxes do not go about bragging how much they avoided paying, etc. So, my guess is as good as anybody else's guess. My take is that the number should be around 30% of the "official" GDP. And if my take is correct (which I have reasons to believe it is), the real Brazilian GDP is already bigger than the French and British GDP. What you guys fail to see, be it because you simply do not know what is going on in Brazil, or be it simply because you do not want to see what is going on in Brazil, is this Brazil has either concluded or is just about to conclude 5 (five) big real game-changers which will make all the difference (if Brazil has already one of the top 10 ten economies of the planet, after these 5 game-changers become operative, the Brazilian GDP will jump sky-high and will become possibly within the next 20 years, the third biggest GDP of the planet). GAME-CHANGER NUMBER 5 - Brazil has developed a sophisticated, and efficient and reliable financial system, with both stock and commodities exchanges which are very efficient, with very solid banks, and the Brazilian Central Bank is also very efficient, and knows its business, and the Brazilian annual inflation has been for years essentially on pair with the annual inflation of all other developed economies on Earth. And Brazil has a huge amount of foreign reserves (currently, the amount of the Brazilian foreign reserves is bigger than Argentina's GDP).; GAME-CHANGER NUMBER 4 - Brazil has solved briliantly its energy problem. Nowadays Brazil has become absolutely self-sufficient in energy, being the only country on Earth with 80% of its Energy matrix compounded by clean, renewable energy. Brazil is by far the biggest producer of hydroelectricity in the whole Western world and Brazil will easily beat China in the coming years. But Brazil is very powerful in the production of solar and wind energy, and in Green hydrogen, and in ethanol, and Brazil from an importer of Middle-Eastern oil, has become a local producer of oil, and every year it is increasing its exports of oil so much so, that nowadays the exports of oil have become the number one source of revenue of the country, bigger than the revenue propitiated by the agribusiness and by the export of minerals; GAME-CHANGER NUMBER 3 - Brazil is about to solve definitively its century-old bottle-neck of logistics. Brazil has always suffered badly from bad logistics, bad motorways, bad and insufficient railways, no waterways, etc. Brazil is energetically tackling these problems and is criss-crossing the country with new modern motorways and new, modern, railways, and new water ways, and on top of that it is modernizing its port infrasctructure. Brazil has just concluded the most important, decisive railway, which links the Northern border of Brazil to its Southern border. Its is a massive, big, railway line with 5,5 thousand kilometers and it is already working and this is already beginning to make a big difference. However Brazil is in the process of building three transversal railways linking the East (the Atlantic coast) to the West (the Brazilian Mid-West), and these transversal railways will be linked to the Northern-Southern railway, so that when they are ready (probably these transversal railways will be ready and fully operational by 2026) it will be possible to move cargos by a cheap, competitive, efficient means of transportantion to any direction of Brazil. However, the most important motorways and railways are the two transcontinental motorways linking the Brazilian Atlantic coast to the Pacific and the two transcontinental railways linking the Brazilian Atlantic coast to the Pacific. All in all these new lines of communication will connect, for the first time in the whole South American history, the Atlantic to the 6 different Pacific ports (3 in Chile and 3 in Peru), and these per se will be game-changers for the economies of Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay and the Northern part of Argentina, which will, for the first time in their history have easy, fast, cheap, competitive access to the Brazilian Atlantic ports (and vice-versa). These great engineering works are proceeding, and most likely than not, in the next two to three years they will too become operational. GAME-CHANGER NUMBER 2 - Brazil has just concluded the construction of a massive network of canals bringing in water from a perennial river to the Brazilian North-Eastern region, which has 18% of the total area of Brazil (the size of Alaska) and harbors 60 million Brazilians. The North-Eastern region is by far the poorest region of Brazil because it is, for the past 2 centuries, a draught-stricken region, and as such, it has traditionally suffered from severe lack of water, and also because it had not sufficient energy. Now this is over. Now, for the first time in the past two hundred years, the Brazilian North-East will have all the water that it needs and all the energy that it needs, and because of the combination of these two factors, the North-East, which has always given a very small contribution to our GDP, now will begin to give a very big contribution to our GDP and most likely than not it will become the region in Brazil with the highest rate of development in the coming years; GAME-CHANGER NUMBER 1 - Brazil has mastered the tropics. Sadam Hussein coined a funny expression once, "the mother of all battles". I am going to borrow that expression and will coin the expression "the mother of all game-changers". This is what it means the fact that Brazil has mastered the tropics. Brazil has learned how to put the tropics to work for it and not against it and the result is that we are producing now cultures which have never been produced in tropical countries, cultures that have always been cultivated in cold countries, but now, thanks to sheer investments in science and technology, they are being produced in Brazil. And the result of that is that Brazil is now producing more soy than the United States, Argentina and China combined, but the United States Department of Agriculture is saying that 10 years from now Brazil will be producing the double of the American, Argentinean and Chinese soy production (today we are producing 170 million metric tons of soy but 10 years from now it will be more than 300 million metric tons), and we are doing the same miracle with wheat and corn, and with many other cold weather cultures, not to mention the cultures that are traditionally tropical and in which Brazil has always been unbeatable. The Brazilian Mid-West is the greatest granary on Earth and it is located 1500 km from the Pacific and more than 3 thousand kilometers from the Atlantic. In a few years more all the grain produced in the Brazilian Mid-West will be transported to the Pacific by rail or motorway, it does not matter, and these will be cheaper than carrying them to the Atlantic ports, and since our greatest buyers are in Asia, that will mean our FOB price will be cheaper, the ocean freight rates will be cheaper, the round trip total time will be reduced in at least 20 days, and financial costs with the issuance of letters of credit will be equally cheaper, and since the world has 8 billion people that need to eat, Brazil can rely on a firm and non-elastic demand for its produce, and since Brazil has solved or is about to solve all its traditional bottlenecks in energy and logistics, and since Brazil mastered the tropics, our exports will increase exponentially, and it will double in the next 10 years and will double again in the subsequent 10 years. Today, our GDP is about 2,5 trillion USD. Twenty years from now it will, most likely than not, be 10 trillion USD. And you guys are ignoring all those earth-shaking changes...
