The only difference real difference mechanically speaking over there 500$ option, will be there burrs (depending on when it's produced). You can buy different burrs like the ones for finer grinding for about 30$ I just bought one. Worst case scenario I install different burrs. At 230$ (after potentially changing the burrs) for a good flat Burr grinder. I think that's pretty darn good.

heard that they changed the burrs from espresso ones to filter specific ones sometime in 2020. Might explain why some people are having good results with it for espresso. I think I'm gonna get the crono and the espresso burr set. Still comes out cheaper than facile.

I use my Crono for my Rocket machine. I have it dialed down to about .5 to 1 depending on the type of beans. Seems to be doing fine. I did add the Coffee Grinder Single Dose Hopper for Eureka Mignon Grinder 2 in 1 Function Coffee Grinder Accessories Hopper Hand Pressure Silicone. This helps to clear out the fine grinds.

I made the same assessment, enjoying my Crono! I think the only thing that makes it a "filter" grinder is that it doesn't come with a portafilter fork. They do make one (fits the Manuale) but it is OOS everywhere.

I have a very strong suspicion that all the Mignon grinders have the same internals. As to the fine-ness of the grind I took my Filtro down to 0.5 and ground 15g then I ran it in my Classic and it choked the portafilter completely. I'm not sure if this is Turkish but it's too fine for regular espresso (comes out like talc). A good starting point is 3 on the dial which I did 18g into 28g of water which took 22 seconds. It was bitter but the beans were supermarket 'Morning Roast' crap just to try out the grinder with. I'm waiting on some good espresso roast beans to dial in flavor. I'm going to buy a Chrono to handle my filter and French press lines but the Filtro is going to stay exclusively espresso. AS to price, I'm fairly sure that this is the usual espresso BS where as soon as you mention the E word the prices jack up by 50%. Don't be too hard of SCG, they got to make a living as well and if you want the sparkly version with chrome top and LCD doodads then good luck to you. For me I single dose and weigh in and out so a grinder timer is irrelevant. I'm now off to do some 3D printing. Why the Chrono? Because I can get a white case and the timer allows me to grind 75g of beans without holding onto the Technivorm filter basket. I'll probably end up modding the chrono for a simple toggle switch instead of the stupid basket button and timer. I might also spray the Filtro case Ferrari red eventually. At $200 to $250 these are reasonable prices for good quality grinders.

Does the Crono work in manual mode when grinding into a portafilter if the timer is set to "Min"? I mean, turning on when the portafilter presses the button and stopping when the it is put away? They show this on the video , but I never saw confirmation it is working this way kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZO9laiJltyfY80

Judging by the timing of the video, your Crono most likely came with the filter burr. You can get the 50mm OEM espresso burr they make for the Eureka Mignon line for about 32 bucks on Amazon, and then swap out. I did exactly that and can pour beautiful shots with minimum channeling on my Gaggia Classic Pro

Hi Charles, I am looking to upgrade my grinder. The Eureka Mignon line caught my attention. I was thinking of getting the Notte. This espresso focused unit sells for about $329. Marc at WLL steered me to the Facile $399 which has the same sound treatement as the Silenzio. Without the sound treatement the Cronos and Notte are really loud. I will save up for the Facile to pair with my Gaggia Classic Pro.

Have enjoyed your videos especially the first bottomless one. Are you still using the unpressurized basket? Have you tried any light/medium roasts? I think the concern is that for unpressurized it is really is really hard to dial in the correct grind size needed to properly extract different light/medium roasts. People like to vary the grind size with these so they can change the shot time by a couple of seconds and taste the difference. This is really what they mean when they say you need an espresso grinder. That kind of fine adjustment wouldn't be possible with the chrono. Check out James Hoffman's channel.

Thank you for the support I have tried some medium roasts with mixed results, but light roasts are a struggle since they usually would need a higher temperature which unfortunately this machine can’t do

The "not too different" would be the gawg-awful noise of the Notte or Crono vs. the Mignon Facile. The price difference is worth it. It's hard to see how well this crono "worked" for brewing an espresso as he used a non-transparent cup. My guess was it looked solid black with a thin layer of crema on the top.
