I was 12 when Te Reo was finally legally recognised as a language of New Zealand. I have felt second class my entire life but it is only in recent years that my father is beginning to open up about his personal experiences/scars and what he was subjected to starting from a young age makes me so mad. Then I watch this and see all those stunning Whanau there to support each other and indeed all Te Iwi Maori and it is so uplifting it bought me to tears. I chose to get my moko kauae 4years ago and my father was scared for me, worried about how I would be treated, whether it would affect my future work opportunities etc. It has been the best and most assertive decision I have ever made. Seeing more and more kauae and also kauae on younger wahine is amazing. Please keep up your narrative - it is so necessary!!!

You can march and protest as much as you like, the current government doesn't appear to care how you feel. To the Government it's business as causal and full steam ahead.
