I had just a couple days in Collingwood and there are so many trails to choose from. I decided to spend my time exploring an abandoned boardwalk in hopes that it would have tons of wildlife opportunities since there wouldn't be very many people around.

That sounds like such a fun experience! I have heard them a few times, and only successfully spotted them once. Maybe this spring/summer I will have another opportunity. Thanks for commenting!

Another grand adventure! Looks like a hidden gem! I adore those black crowns, and the yellow crowns as well! Can't wait for their migrations to bring them back to my area and start making babies!

They are such stunning birds! I can't wait for an opportunity to see them again next season. Getting to see their nesting season would be amazing! Thank you for commenting, I'm glad you enjoyed this one.

Love the videos!! You’ll have to do a road trip over here to Ottawa soon. Got some shots of 5 separate black crowned night herons in one afternoon at Mud Lake conservation area right in town!! It’s a bird hot spot. Definitely very exciting to see!

That is awesome, it always seems to be around the cities that I hear about people photographing them! I was actually in Ottawa this weekend, but I didn't have a chance to go on any hikes or take any photos. Thanks for commenting, really glad you're enjoying the videos!

Hey Curtis! Really enjoying your videos and you are inspiring me to make my own soon. Do you edit all of the pictures you show on screen? Or only the best ones? It seems like a lot of work, and it shows in the great quality of these videos. :)

I start by picking out a handful of images I want to share in the video, which is my favourite part of making these. I don’t feel any pressure to share only the absolute best images like I would on other platforms. Typically I do a really simple edit on all the photos and then on my best shots I create a more in depth edit with masking and other techniques. Im glad your inspired to create videos. Good luck and thanks for commenting! :)

@@CurtisSnapshot Thank you for the reply and sharing your workflow! It's really insightful. I'm just starting out now and learning the whole editing process after getting my wildlife camera earlier this year. I also have an action-cam on the way, so I will be all set. :) I'm wondering (if you don't mind me asking) what settings you use when exporting photos to platforms like Instagram. I use Lightroom and they tend to get compressed a lot when I try to upload them. Yours are really crisp, so I thought I'd ask you about it. Greetings from Germany!

@@Adrian.MuellerI use Lightroom cloud storage, so the photos I import and edit on my computer automatically transfer to the mobile app on my phone. I usually export on the phone app. This isn’t necessary, but I find it compresses the photo files better so that they aren’t too large for Instagram. My export settings are always JPG largest dimensions available, at %100 image quality. Sometimes making an additional crop and some extra sharpening helps. Hope this helps! I think it’s the fact lightroom mobile is optimized for mobile use and uploading to social media, so it seems to optimize photo compression better.

Hey Curtis I’m starting bird photography and was wondering what is the app you are using to identify birds?

It’s called “Merlin Bird ID by Cornell Lab” and it’s incredibly useful! I have been slowly learning my birds with it.

Thanks for the suggestion! I can see that being very helpful, as I myself am still always trying to identify new birds I don’t know.
