NGL - these "friend with walking red flag bf" videos are also making me realize that, at one point, I was getting caught up in a friend's abusive relationship with her partner. I think something that doesn't get talked about enough is that abusive partners sometimes try to manipulate their partner's friends, too, to sell them on the relationship and make them stop questioning red flags.

My friend was in a similar situation with her best friend's husband. He had been emotionally abusing and controlling his wife for so long that when he tried to do the same with her friend and it didn't work he had no idea what to do. He tried to intimidate her physically but she didn't back down so he was at a complete loss (she told me if he hit her he would get a smack of her hiking stick and then she'd report him to the police). He was divorced not long after. Abusers are bullies who never grew up. Glad to see people in the comments have gained some perspective if they see themselves in this character.

It's not always an age thing. What the boyfriend is saying here with "she's so innocent" is basically "she's so easy to manipulate and gaslight, and if I call it innocence and praise her for it then she'll stay that way". He doesn't realize that's what he's doing/saying though. It's an internal feeling of rage and shame that drives him without him ever getting tactical about it.

Sometimes my brain promises dopamine if I can manipulate people into doing stuff I like with me like okay basketball or go running up hill in the woods. Does that make me a bad person? I just make it seem like the greatest shit even though I know I'm the only person who ever enjoys it. I'm just really good at selling shit, it's like people don't know how to say no or something. I usually don't even feel bad until I see 'em like doubled over heaving. What makes it worse is they'll be having fun a little while from the start and as it's ending so it misleads me every time. Why is everyone around me not able to breath after extended light strenuous activity? Why are they so terrible at saying no? Why can I convince people who already know it's terrible to do it anyway? There's normal people who question tattoos and confirm whether or not their spouse want to fully commit then support them and help them decide or just reaffirm that it's ok then there's this... Just pure controlling and wanting to make choices for someone else's body, like regardless of if you say it's ok or not... They are an adult who can make choices.

My friend’s boyfriend literally pretended to be suddenly dead asleep and caused a whole scene by refusing to “wake up” when everyone was asking if he was okay. After what felt like at least 5 minutes of that nonsense, he “woke up” and then they both went home. It was like 10pm and he’d been complaining the whole time. So weird idk why he even came with her in the first place

Since he's her new boyfriend he's trying to hide how controlling/angry he can be. Trying to get her friends to do his bidding, and then the real him comes out at the end when Stephanie doesn't comply. Absolutely chilling.
