According to the Portuguese, the Javanese people easily accepted Islam, which makes sense since dharmic religions in Java were basically brought by invaders or colonizers, their founding legend (legend of Aji Saka) glorifies Saka Aryan invasion from India. They see Indian culture as superior to native Austronesian culture of Java, which is why the majority of historic stone temples were built in Indian style instead of native style. Not to mention that that legend depicts native Javanese ancestors as rakshasa (demonic beings) while claiming that the Saka people were the first humans and kings of Java despite only arriving in 78 CE. The ones who fled to Bali were the nobility with "Arya" title, meaning they are the descendant of the Aryans. Today there are many people in Bali who proudly flaunt their Arya ancestry. The original people of Bali are the Bali Aga or Bali Mula people who respect their Austronesian ancestors by living without caste, unlike the majority of post-Majapahit Bali people who acknowledges the caste system.
