Poverty-stricken families get assistance from US-based Guyanese

The Shabna Show is all about highlighting issues and changing lives, so when a US-based Guyanese woman, Barbara Singh, contacted us to help some of the people we highlighted in our videos and other deserving people, we were elated. Some of them willingly shared the stories of their struggles. Barbara, who has been involved in humanitarian work for a number of years, did not mind highlighting her effort. She wants it to inspire others to reach out to the less fortunate as well. She has her friend, Wazir Ali, who has also been involved in charitable activities, doing the ground work to ensure the needs of the people are met.

There are so many good and decent people in Guyana. At the same time many vagabonds and crooks. The lady who is cari g for her grandchildren have a very positive attitude, is pleasant and thankful and also speaks good and understandable English, unlike many who l have heard in other videos. My two cents.

I feel sorry for them too. Where are those grandchildren parents. I was told the president and other government officials see these videos. Man on a mission working every day helping very poor Guyanese. I also heard from very reliable sources, some family living on that seadam want to be with their fishermen husband, they watch boats at night as security guards as a job, same time some of them have a house inland. I don't want to comment much, but we are not hearing the hold truth of what's going on at the sea dam. For years many of my family and friends helping Guyanese in Guyana with hampers, wheelchairs, eye glasses, medications...etc. If you volunteer in Guyana, you will get upset, seeing some lazy Guyanese not wanting to work, they want hand out and Government to do everything for them. I see for myself the can't even clean the gutters infront of their homes, form a community group and keep your streets clean. God man...i came to Canada age 14, my parents always had us doing volunteer work in a soup kitchen, food bank..etc. after my education we always had 2 jobs and helping others. I find some Guyanese lazy in Guyana. Many Educated Guyanese in USA and Canada get laid off from work, they will do any job (clean houses, cut grass, shovel snow, baby sit.. etc) to make money while looking for work. Right now in Canada many Guyanese having a difficult time, who is helping them. My 2 cents

Poor Guyanese need to get their priorities straightened out. They need lots of education in areas such as basic living, medical, financial , and other areas. Secondly, all these contractors who are doing shoddy and unscrupulous work, and their cohorts in government should be dealt with severely. And l mean severely!

R Ram, the folks that are giving out the land know who the overseas Guyanese are! What is needed to get land in Guyana is an active income tax file for the last 10 years and proof of residency. And the locals need to question the NDC, relevant authorities and residents once they move into their new home!

From one squatting area to the next. Squatting should be outlawed in Guyana. When land is given and houses are built by the Guyana government., they should remain in possession of the people they were given to. When those persons pass away or move on, those property should revert to the government, in order to help others. In other words, the title to those lands should remain in the government hands. Of course, rules and laws should be written up to protect everyone. No curry favour!

Every cent or penny that the government of Guyana is spending is taxpayers money. When the PPPC government of Guyana builds a house for somebody, they are spending taxpayers money. When the government of Guyana gives away grants, money or etc. to people they are given away taxpayers money. All the loans that the PPPC government of Guyana borrowed from banks and other countries has to be paid back by the Guyanese taxpayers of Guyana. No government has it own money because it is all taxpayers money. So, far, the PPPC government of Guyana has given away 20 billion dollars of the Guyanese taxpayers money to Guysuco. Some people might say that it is unfair for government of Guyana to choose the people or persons who they want to give away the taxpayers money to because why are those people or persons better or more deserving than the rest of us, Guyanese taxpayers.

The PPPC government of Guyana should immediately spend back the taxpayers money on them by addressing the poor condition that they are living in. Look at all the tax benefits and duty free breaks that all our politicians get in Guyana. It’s add up to billions of dollars. Instead of giving Guyanese politicians all of those financial benefits, spent that money on poor people.
