Looks great! Is there a reason to use metal on the inside? Bare metal kinda makes sense because you can clean paint off easy. But painted metal doesn’t make sense to me. But I’m sure I’m missing something.

Just found your video. Love the way the booth turned out. I'm debating on doing something similar with my own setup. I have a slightly smaller booth already for Cerakote and I'm having a problem with overspray. As I do this in my garage, I need to find a better solution. I'm debating between doing an all enclosed booth or something like yours. How do you think this booth you built will work with something like Cerakote? Right now my fans are just 2 20" box fans with some filters for exhaust. Let me know what you think.
@martinjamesdesigns37482 жыл бұрын
Hey Mathew! Thanks for checking out my video. So this booth works amazing for powder coating. The fans are 700cfm fans each with variable speed controls so it helps with any powder or overspray leaving the booth. I’m not entirely sure on the cerekote process but I know it involves spraying which I use this booth for automotive paint. My one downfall is the booth needs to be bigger. If it was wider by 3ft and deeper by 2ft I could actually get in there and move around. Right now I have to spray parts outside and have the fans catch the overspray or I need to use my rolling rack. All and all it works great for my hobby shop but if you have room I’d make it bigger! I don’t think a fully enclosed one is necessary

Really nice setup, thanks for sharing - I will definitely be borrowing some ideas from this. How are those filters doing as far as staying clean? Do you vac them and reuse them or just replace as needed? Also, what gauge steel sheet metal did you use to line the inside? Thanks.
@martinjamesdesigns37483 жыл бұрын
Hey Brett! The filters hold up great. You can remove the filters and blow them out or vacuum them but I honestly just replace them. They are $4 each from my plumbing supplier and I’ve only had to replace them 1 time since I built the booth. The sheet metal is your standard hvac ducting thickness which is 28 gauge. I just buy them in sheets by Ecco or whoever sells sheet metal. Another option could be door skin. It’s thin sheets of wood (like balsa wood) Home Depot or lower will carry it. it won’t be as glossy with paint on it but will be a lot cheaper and easier to work with. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

What is the maximum depth we need and what type of Bloor fan used and what is the capacity of fan did only air go through duct is it completely powder saver or not ? R the filters control wastage of powder
@martinjamesdesigns37482 жыл бұрын
The in-line duct fan is a BROAN 700 cfm fan and the filters are 16x20x1. It catches 90% of the powder and I change the filters every few weeks. They are only about $5 each.

Looking at getting back into powder coating in my new house. Do you run into powder getting on the lights and walls or do the high cfm fans keep the overspray under control? This coming from a guy that used an old armoire and a box fan as a paint booth. Didn’t work great and my light source just baked powder that got on it lol

@martinjamesdesigns37482 жыл бұрын
I would definitely do it again over buying one. It’s the exact size I was looking for. Build cost was probably a few thousand dollars but I’m sure you could knock that down by switching out some of the materials and simplifying it a bit more

Love the build I actually have the same l700l V fans, just to bring it to your attention, the motors are not explosion proof, venting paint fumes could cause an explosion as the motors act as an ignition source for obvious reasons, powder should be ok since it doesn't make it passed the filter.
