This video on Powder vs. Air Pros and Cons with the Savage MARK II FV SR 22LR and Daystate Huntsman Revere is brought to you by Airguns of Arizona and the rest of our sponsors.
Let’s start by stating that this is NOT a “VS” video between firearms and airguns. There are great reasons for folks to shoot firearms AND airguns, but not everyone understands the differences. There are benefits and challenges for each. In this video, we’ll take a look at a few of these topics as we start our series on Powder vs. Air, Pros and Cons. We are starting with an entry-level Savage .22LR and an amazing sporting airgun from Airguns of Arizona, the Daystate Huntsman Revere .22. Let’s get started.

As an air gun person and a firearm person for many years I've always been impressed with even some of the good Crosman airguns

Yep.. the new prospect is really nice. I look forward to doing more with it at some point. Stay tuned for some coverage on the new Barra 250z. We'll have it on the GTA channel. Cheers AGW

Rick, I really enjoyed the video. I agree both have their place. I have a Savage Mark II and it performs well, I can get dime sizes groups at 50 yards easily, using CCI standard velocity and subsonic . I also have a Benjamin Marauder in .25 and this is my go-to air rifle for squirrel hunting. I have take squirrels out at 70 yards with this Airgun.

Nice video Rick, and one that could be followed in several more videos 👍. One comment, as a gun collector, powder and air rifles, and 28 yr. law enforcement officer and former sniper, the BIGGEST area where modern cartridge rifles FAIL FAIL FAIL is in the STOCKS!! Anyone watching you shoot the Savage .22 can see you have NO cheek weld on that Monte Carlo stock, but rather nearly a CHIN WELD because the cheek riser is AN INCH TOO LOW!! This is a chronic disease that in 2024 nearly ALL stocks are plastic Monty Carlo stocks that worked 40+ years ago with 1" scope tubes and 30mm objective lenses. What are we all shooting TODAY??? 30, 34 andeven 36 mm main tubes AND 50 and even 54mm objective lenses.....then if you add a 20 moa rail, your head is WAAAYY over that tiny Monty Carlo stock they include with nearly EVERY Savage, Ruger, Remington, Christianson, on and on and on!! You can see it drives me nuts. MANY are forced to go to chassis rifles because of this, but we'd love to stay with a beautiful wood stock!! Just think about it people......yeah, we could say "Go get a GRS stock for your rifle"...... I'd love to but they are $450! It's 2024 guys....😒

Hey there.. Thanks for the comment! It's funny that firearms get it wrong one way and airguns get it wrong in the opposite direction! Anyway, I'm hoping to continue this series forward. I have a lot of cool ideas. At least I think they'll be cool! Cheers AGW

My best friend laughed at me when I spent 1,200 dollars for an airgun. But what's funny is that I've shot that airgun well over 2,000 times. Yet the 300 Weatherby magnum I bought for around the same price I only shoot once a year. So which one was money better spent........????? Actually I added wrong. I've shot that airgun over 3,000 times. So if Iam spending money to buy something. It's nice to be able to enjoy it. I couldn't afford to shoot my Weatherby that much.

Let me tell you something that Savage Mark II is a sleeper. Let me tell you, you polish that barrel make sure everything is nice and tight glass bed the rifle stock it shoots like a laser, of course with the right ammo like CCI. Standard velocity. It also doesn't like bulk ammo . I have both PCP air rifles and rimfire 22LR, they both have their place for Pest Control and plinking.

Thanks for the comment. I'm going to do some work on it to see if I can find better ammo and get better results. .22LR is cheap enough these days to allow for some experimentation. And it's a lot of fun. Cheers AGW p.s. I'm going to pull out my Ruger 10/22 next, alongside my .30 cal Western Big Bore Rattler. It should be a fun video :)

I wonder if your scope is moving on that 22 rifle because I have never had a savage 22 shoot a group so spread out.

For me i love both, but for convenience i prefer air guns. I have a dirt mount in the back pasture i can shoot powder burners in, but i can shoot air guns in my front yard. I do live in a rural area, and i have neighbors on two sides. Cost is also an issue when you step away from .22lr and i just love plinking and maybe taking a few dove with my air guns. Now i own 2 expensive (to me) pcp's (about $1,800.00 each) and i don't think it was worth it for me when my Avengers shoot as well for what i do.

Until I bought my CZ 457 I wouldnt screw with a kill out past about 60. But with sub sonic match ammo, you can take head shots at over 100 no problem

For the price of that Daystate you can buy a dozen Savage .22s. Get a life!

Not really. For just the gun, you cans get maybe 3 Savage .22LRs. But it’s not about cost. Hobbies are expensive, especially if you play at the top end of the hobby. You can get something like the Gauntlet, Avenger, Prospect, Barra, JTS, Maracay, all for about the same as the savage and they will all shoot very close to the Daystste. Cheers AGW
