I just subbed. Great videos. Creeks and rivers just opened up here in Northern California ⛰. Looking into BFS this season. Around trees, bushes, rock walls. Eying that’s kastking bfs with or without the clicker. Just seeing if you recommend a low price entry rod?? Thanks 👌🏾. Maybe a certain length

Welcome aboard! There are a lot of cheap options. I just ordered a Bass Pro Shop Crappie Max Rod that should arrive this week. if you can't wait, it's 29.99, but they got other rods too. If u go to Bass Pro or Cabelas website, sort by casting rods, then look through UL, L and ML, im sure you can find a few at SUPER entry/budget price to see if you like BFS. Note that Zephyr BFS reel out of the box can do 2 grams and up pretty well. anything below, need magnets, but it still doesn't do that great below 1/16th oz. I would opt for the Tsurinoya Dark Wolf Ultra instead if you plan to do light weight creek stuff down to 1 gram (stock reel).

I noticed you're getting spooled pretty quickly in this video and it's making me wonder if I'm using too much line on my zephyr. I think I'm following the specs listed in the manual but I'm still very new to the BFS and baitcaster world, so do you have any tips/hacks for how to measure and determine when you've put enough line on the reel (e.g. 20 turns of the handle, x amount of arm-lengths of line, etc.)?
@rawrfishing Жыл бұрын
It really depends what you are casting. I am using A heavier lure with thicker line. So u can see it will spool myself. What I am doing is power bfs fishing. Ppl do this as there is a gap for those who wanna throw light lures, but heavier tackle. As u can see.. There are trade off such as spooling myself and not getting the distance I want. Everything for me has been trial and error. Zephyr is a reel that cant have a lot of line on it if you are trying to throw light lures. But IPT been key for me. It's how I use to figure out how far I typically can cast and I just add a few extra yards depending on the fishery.

Good stuff Jimmy. Nice of the property owner to let you fish there. I use a Clamber Long Shot with ML as its more of a finesse reel than BFS but nothing wrong using BFS for that weight rod.

thx man! yes! and now that i made friends with him, i can always go back lol. Just don't wanna over film it so ppl don't trespass. ppl already litter on the side of his house by the street which sucks! I love long cast reels as those are have the ability to cast light lures too! which is why i love my new reel, the tatula sv tw103. Long cast reels are versatile! :)

Would the googan twitch rod be any good for this kind of setup? I also collect knives and love ceramic bearings in a knife pivot but the ceramics can eat thru stainless with over spinning and on a reel there will be some serious spinning so keep it lubed as much as possible
@rawrfishing3 жыл бұрын
No idea what sort of rod that is. I have no experience with that brand. I don't know how long it would take for the bearings to really eat through for reels. it sure is screaming loud during casts LOL... but it would be interesting to see how long it would last in a reel yea?

Keep hearing the line gets caught between the spool and side plate....is this a common problem with this reel?
@rawrfishing3 жыл бұрын
Common with anyone who backlash thin lines on BC reels. Happens with even daiwa alphas air tw and shimano aldebaran. Sure it happens more in this reel, but if it doesn't backlash, That means it's okay ya? Sounds like some folks need more practicing!

@rawrfishing3 жыл бұрын
Sure, It's an category created by the bfs fishing community to describe certain tackle used with bfs reels. Often used with heavier gears instead of UL. I used it in a ML setup. I ignore weight ranges when I define it. But some would give u ranges. I will be honest... I don't remember what ppl say which is why I simplify it lol
