Thanks Adam, the "add a user feature" was exactly what I needed.

If there is role based access implemented in the database, this feature negates that. Whereas previously admin access was locked down, this has thrown the gate wide open. And there is no ability to control who can create dataflows, all you can do as an admin is enable/disable it at tenant level. This is a huge security risk.

Hi - I have been added as a 'User' by an admin, just like in your video. When I try to connect as a user, I can see the same dropdown box for the on premises, which says 'user' in brackets just like your vid. However, when I try to use the credentials to login, i get the error message " The connection you are trying to use has not been shared with you on the on-premises data gateway. ", even though it clearly has?

Does this also work when you create the DataFlow from a Blank Query? The connection does still exist on the DataGateway.

Hi Adam, I want to design a report which will have nearly 30+ attributes. and the sources are 1. Tabular model. 2. SQL server and 3. Datalake file. There are common attribute between those sources. Is it possible in power bi ?
@GuyInACube5 жыл бұрын
I don't recommend pulling in data from a tabular model into a dataflows. You can pull in data from SQL Server and/or the data lake. It's just Power Query online.

@@GuyInACube Hi, Can you please state the reason why you think pulling data from table model to data flow is not recommended? I have some fields that I need to rename in the powerBI and tabular connection. Data warehouse team is going to take long to make the required changes.

I am new to Power flows. I have created 2 powerflows. One connects to an Azure SQL database, the other through a gateway to an onpremise SQL database. When I go to another workspace and try to use these dataflows, the one from the Azure SQL database works fine. The onpremise shows dataset empty. We have Premium capacity. I use the same admin userid for both workspaces. What am I missing?

what happens when same data source is made available through two different gateways ?
@patrickbooth79485 жыл бұрын
Hey Adam - Does the same process of having to add users at the data source level apply if your dataflows are set up to source some data through the On-Prem Data Gateway but others through a SharePoint site? I'm getting conflicting messages from the MS team that the SharePoint data sources are not supported if you have both in dataflows.

anyone tried dataflow to store a huge table? I've been strugling with that, the dataflow size is so huge.. and it took me so long to use dataflow in my dataset since it 's import and we have to download it.. any tips to reduce the dataflow size?
@akhilannan5 жыл бұрын
What I usually do in case of huge data is apply a filter on the data flow(usually a date filter) and save/refresh it so that its size reduces and I can import it to PowerBI Desktop. After I m done with the modelling in Power BI desktop, I publish it, and then remove the filter from dataflow and save/refresh it. Now, I can simply do a dataset refresh in Power BI service which is usually quite fast. Once dataset refresh completes, you could start building reports from Power BI desktop making a live connection to the dataset.

@@akhilannan hmmm.. interesting approach, but what if the dataflow is being used by other users? but anyway I'll try your suggestion and get back to you later. 😁

Will the gateway update the password automatically?
@mchandrasekhar055 жыл бұрын
No, it won't update. If we update the pwd means we have to update pwd at gateway source setting otherwise it won't work.
@ThoughT735 жыл бұрын
M chandrasekhar bummer... means we have to set up some service user that dont apply to the password rules. Cant go around remembering stuff like that.
@mchandrasekhar055 жыл бұрын
@@ThoughT73 Probably all users won't access to gateway developer/ publisher will only have accessing to set up schedule refresh.
@ThoughT735 жыл бұрын
M chandrasekhar sure... but I would still have to remember updating the gateway when my password expires (if I use my credentials). The reports made on top of that can potentially have a wide audience.
@mchandrasekhar055 жыл бұрын
@@ThoughT73 If you use Windows authentication means you only access the to that gateway .
