@@stevejohnson1321 That can't be as they are also used in the EU. Without downloading IEC 60320 i'd guess at least up to C16 the insulation level is 1000 V as they are used for 240/400 V systems. Allowed amps are on the wikipedia page. That info could be added with an overlay without reuploading the video.

You should have mentioned that a C15 cable fits in a C14 device, but C13 cable doesn't fit in a C16 device. This allows cables rated for high temperatures to be used with many devices, but high-temperature devices won't accept cables not rated for it.

C13/14 in Australia just named kettle plug as in old porcelain kettles used them. Standard tv and desktop plug, guitar amps etc. C7/8 some tv's, portable stereos, shavers- called shaver plugs in Aust. C5/6 a few laptop chargers, a lot of LG tv's. Always have numerous of all of above cables on hand as i try to repair telly's etc from e-waste with about 30% success!

They all have different faces but do the same thing right? I.e they all just deliver the AC power from the wall socket? I have a table fan with a long cable and am researching the possibility of cutting it amid and reconnecting the two ends with C7 and C8 instead so that the C7/C8 can go thru small holes on a cabinet door. Is it doable? Or is there other better options? I’m surprised no one really talk about it on the internet 🤔

I many power adapters and I understand the power cord connections into the "block" or converter. What I am having issues with are the varied connectors into the devices. You have connectors for Dell laptops, Toshiba and so on. There are even a couple I have that the device connector is approximately 5/8" OD, with three pin inside. Similar to the connector for a Ford Mustang. So can you help with understanding what all these device connectors go to? Thank you.

@pleappleappleap
@pleappleappleap 4 жыл бұрын
You can get adapters that take have a 5-15R on one side and a 1-15P along with a ground lead on the other. You plug in the 1-15P to your 1-15R and then screw the ground lead into the box, usually through the screw in the center of the faceplate. Make sure to use an unpainted screw, and double check the box is grounded. If the box isn't grounded, hoo boy. You should probably rewire.

Why are your NEMA connectors upside down?
@pleappleappleap
@pleappleappleap 4 жыл бұрын
I won't speak for them, but I've found it's better to have the ground pin facing upward. Why? Because if the plug is only in half way and something falls into the gap, it is better that the offending item touches the ground and doesn't short the live to the neutral. That's bad news.

It's actually because of intelligence they invented these plugs. These standards are made from their previous iterations. There will be newer and newer standards after they found some problems or specific needs to be addressed.

@@dputra You are confusing intelligence with cleverness. Humans are clever and invent many things, some good, some atrocious. Other animals are far more intelligent since they do not breed way out of the numbers their environment can support; they do not routinely pollute their living space, and they do not destroy the biodiversity of the planet - only humans do that.
