I was working in the Maldives at the time of the demise of R. Premadasa. The entire Srilankan body (labourers, house maids and other blue collar staff) made KiriBath (Milk rice) to celebrate. A high government official who had booked the ticket to attend the funeral had canceled his ticket after speaking to a group of Srilankan expatriates I heard. I was young and had no idea of the cruelty and the dirty politics this man did. Then people started speaking openly and some said they left the country because of his henchmen. We weep for our countrymen and listening to this gentleman made me throw up ! Disgusting era of Srilankan politics. Thank you for organizing this. Long live Mr. Weerarathna!
I have been listening to some of your episodes , and I remember my father was talking about these incidents. However, I thought some of those are fabricated until i listened to your discussions. I think this is a great initiative to keep hour history alive. So we can learn from the past!

There is a joke that says both JR and Premadasa were invited to Buckingham Palace for lunch in commemoration of the Queen's Golden Jubilee. The Queen had ordered her staff to use gold cutlery to serve the dessert. JR saw Premadasa pocket a gold spoon without anyone's knowledge. When it was JR's turn to speak, he performed a magic trick. He took a gold spoon, showed it to everyone, and then put it in his pocket. He then asked Premadasa to stand and told the head of state seated next to Premadasa to search Premadasa's pocket, saying he had made the gold spoon disappear with a magic trick. The head of state searched Premadasa's pocket and found the gold spoon. On the return journey, Premadasa was twiddling his handkerchief nervously, knowing he would have to account for his actions. JR patted him on the shoulder, pulled out the gold spoon that was in his pocket, and showed it to Premadasa, saying "Abracadabra." JR reportedly kept the gold spoon as a trophy in the president's house. Where it is now is anyone's guess.
